What are the reasons for fly-by-wire throttle?

Heh. Time to get a new pistol...
Torque regulation does happen on a DBW system, but the opening rate is no slower than a cable (in our case, anyway).
Like the above-mentioned Honda, sometimes I wish the dampening rate was greater - the car has a tendency to run away if I'm not gentle.

Throttle by wire, brake by wire, electronic steering and a cruise control that sneses cars in front of you and maintains safe distance including braking the car all on it's own.
Such nice convenience features, with good packaging, and improved efficiencies.
Until the cars are 10 years old and all that electronic wizardry starts to randomly fail. Diagnosing an intermitent electrical/computer fault in a system like that may be a PITA. And driving on a system with no mechanical linkage in case of emergency is just silly.
Hell, Mercedes has a new electronic parking brake setup. That's supposed to be an emergency brake that works manually regardless of electrical condition or whether the engine is running or the hydraulic brakes work anymore. So now if you have a failure in the main system, it's not a backup. Seems slightly illogical.
New cars are more reliable, true, but we don't have decade old data for cars made in the last 5 years... But we do know that even the most reliable brands have had enough incidences of electronic failures.
