Just stumbled upon this thread. Congrats Steve. I've been away from the forums for a while now. No idea you sold your 8. I bet you're missing it. Ironically I just bought Another Spirit R. That's what got me back on the forum 😂 Looking forward to the full review! Congrats again and enjoy the whip.
I am missing certain aspects of it, but holistically speaking, I do not want it back.

I'd recommend waiting to see how it pans out and buy a later model.
Last(and only other) time GM tried a mid-endine was the Fiero, and that wasn't the most successful car.
I am with Steve, too expensive, and no manual transmission really kills it for me. It's either manual or hybrid/EV for me.
The Pontiac Fiero JP2 was indeed a great car.
It took GM too long to get the bugs worked out of that platform (to launch the JP2 in late 1987) just as it died. Hmm the similarities to the RX-8.
Her is my story. I sold my modified rx8 years ago to a friend that still has it. To replace it I bought a c6 zo6 and while it was a really really powerful and fast car....it just didn’t have the Rx8 presiscion that I really missed. Then grandkids came along and I too need a car that could carry more than 2 people. So I bought. Porsche Macan S.
I placed a Cobb tune on the dual turboed v6 plus a little air box work and it really helped. It is very very nice BUT of course it is not a sports car. Soooooo...after the first of the year I will be looking for another rx8 and will be transplanting an lfx v6 engine. That will give a power/ weight ratio of less than 9/1. Look up Keisler automation for their turn key kit/ build.
I have said it before and I will say it again, the rx8 has not been properly appreciated by the general public.
Mainley because of the engine. If the car had come with a strong v6 Oem then it would have become legendary.
My previous rx8 was putting down more than 300 rwhp with my Pettit kit plus, but the maintanice etc had become inconvenient. Still with the increased power parameters it totally changed its driving pleasure .
My future 8 With an engine that will give me much more torque and approx 50 more rwhp with modern every day dependability and comfort will be my perfect car. Very unique.
Not taking anything away from the bmw... have owned a couple....they are great. But they do not have the stiff chassis, the braking, nor the steering of the rx8.
To each his own and glad we now a days have so many choices. Good luck with whatever you have!

Thank you for your insight.
I still have yet to write that review, but BMW stiffens the chassis more and more every year, and by 2016, the stiffness is there. The M235i has huge Brembos all around, and it stops hard enough to put your teeth through the windshield. Agreed on the steering. BMW's EPS can only be described as numb. Probably the only mod I will perform on this car is to replace the flex disc with a solid unit in an attempt to add some steering feedback.
I did consider an M235i at one point and test drove a few. Then my neighbour a few houses down brought back an M2. That pretty much halted my interest. Funny enough he wanted to trade drives with me as he's really curious about the RX8.
While I didn't replace my RX8. How can I since I bought it new and it never really caused me trouble. Still drives like new. I did acquire a Pontiac Solstice GXP. It's getting rare these cars. Weighs less than the RX8 with over double the wTQ. Great date car with the missus.
