This is exactly the sort of problem I've been wrestling with. But my daily driver also has to be able to handle seven people at times. I've already worked out my $40,000 solution, with purchase one year from now:
2005 RX-8 Sport Package, just bought by father for $20,500
2005 Ford Freestyle (Limited if possible), somewhere around twenty
Both lightly used. The other $60,000 would be overkill. Maybe a Cadillac SRX instead of hte Freestyle, but not nearly as functional. Instead of the RX-8? I really haven't driven a more fun to drive sports car, at least not in the context of public roads. But then I'm not a horsepower junkie.
Probably add in a 2001 Miata. $12,000, tops? Still have a lot left over. I could blow it on a used Audi S4 Avant (currently talking myself out of spending $33,000 on a 2004). Then I'd be getting near the cap.
When you think of cars this way, hard to imagine spending $100,000 on just one.

TVR's are amazing cars.

"The mighty TVR Tuscan 2 Targa has taken the Tuscan one step further. Not only in terms of performance but also in styling, the Tuscan 2 S is designed for the true enthusiast - a 400 bhp evolution with a top speed of over 195 mph. A hitech power plant that propels the 1100 kg 4.0 litre Tuscan 2 S to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.
The styling of the Tuscan 2 S has also been finely tuned. Our engineers spent many an hour in the windtunnel to make the Tuscan 2 S one of the first production road cars actually to have downforce over both axles thanks to a gurney above the bootlid and a splitter under the front grille.
The Tuscan 2 S designed for ultimate performance. "
I DEFINATELY gotta get me one of these.
