1. 1997 Honda Prelude Base with some upgraded suspension bits and "quality" I/H/E. I really liked that car. I would not have gotten rid of it except it was due for a clutch replacement and was burning oil. Its achiles heal was that it was FWD. So the RX-8 was the perfect replacement- RWD plus a bit more whizz-pow.
2. 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo. Pretty fast car in its day, but it was a bit of an uncivilized brute, especially because it had crappy tires by the time I got it.

1998 Buick Regal GS. I put over 60,000 miles on the Buick without any major problems. The car had several upgrades including the GMPP suspension, new ECU, 3.4" pulley, intake and exhaust. I ran a 14.1 @ 98.6 in the Buick on my first and only trip to the dragstrip.
I decided to go for the RX8 because I found one for a good deal and I was tired of the FWD / Automatic Buick. The RX8 is the exact opposite of the Buick as far as driving experience goes. I do sometimes miss the torque and fuel economy of the Buick though, plus the Regal was a total sleeper which was fun.

I was curious what you current Owners of the RX-8's jumped from. I have searched and also read the what you all like, and that is very helpful, but curious if anyone has made a similar transition.
TIA. and LOOOOVVVEEEEE the RX-8

Fun car but very expensive to own.
The 8 has less power but is fun to drive and grips the road much better.

Um.
Well I am a soon to be rx8 owner (hopefully). The car im upgrading from is a 1986 Volvo 240gl wagon 4 cylinder with 418,000 miles. The engine is all original, and to gain perfomace, I would shift it myself lol (yes its an automatic). The airconditioner sucks badly and it has some body damage from stupid people hitting me when I was stopped. LOL I was rear ended by a Tacoma and he smashed his front end, grill, upgraded sports lighting, and his bumper was messed up. My car had a small scratch on the thick plastic lined bumper. he was angry.
