2003 RSX base model. Got tired of having the fake vtec and a base model. Also figured out that the insurance for a 2006 8 was about the same as the 2003 RSX...in 2006!

Wow. An '04 vette to an RX-8. That's quite a change. What do you think so far? Do you miss the immense amount of torque? In your opinion, how does the 8 handle compared with the vette? I'm really interested.

I've never experienced anything in an automobile to compare to the sensation of flooring that 5.7L V8 on a long straightaway. From a near stop, I could easily reach 90 by the end of a typical highway onramp. That said, the steering of the 'Vette was heavy and ponderous, and I always took curves slower than the limits of the car. Going from the Corvette to the RX8 is like trading a sledgehammer for a scalpel. And, I love revving the RENESIS all the way to redline and never hearing the cacophony of valves and pushrods (and, so far, spark knock, which seemed to be a nagging issue with my Corvette). Finally, I do not miss scraping the nose of the Corvette over even the slightest transition in elevation.

2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT -
Bought her brand new and put on 63,000 miles before trading in to get the 8. Did most of the basic performance mods and had a lot of fun learning about cars and driving. Now I'm happy to have a real sports car :-)

Traded in my C5 Corvette on my rx8 as well. I'm still coming to terms with the decision.....
I had a custom built(by me) Procharger system on my vette and was putting over 600hp to the wheels. As much as I loved the car, I got tired of tearing it apart every other weekend to repair my driveline. I wasnt prepared to spend 10-15k on a dragstrip driveline and knew I wouldnt be happy with the car demodded.....so I let it go. Demodded it and traded it in.
As for my impression of the RX8 vs the Vette:
I do miss the torque(though obviously I WAS an addict). But I do like the way the Rotory revs out. Its totally different, but I really do enjoy driving the RX8. I wont be roasting the tires at highway speeds...but I kind of accepted those days were over when I got rid of the vette
The handling is much better in the rx8. Its far easier to fling around. For some reason the Vette felt much heavier, even though the wieght difference wasnt that much. Make no mistake, the vette could tear through corners, but you had to muscle it a bit. The Rx8 seems to just go where I want with ease.
I love the 4 seats! It used to kill me when I had the vette all waxxed and pretty sitting in the garage. Yet we'd have to take my wifes dirty V6 mustang because my vette couldnt seat the three of us(Wife and Daughter).

Thanks! Lowering the car made a huge difference in the aggressiveness of the stance. And the eyelids took away some of the "wide eyed" appearance that the stock headlights have. Simple mods to make the car look a ton better.

Good call on the 8 though

I drove a 1997 Toyota Tercel. Put about 60K miles on and it died in 2005-ish when we gave it to a friend. Then had a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo. That had a BAD fuel problem and then was running on only two cylinders when we traded it in for a 2006 Nissan Frontier 4-door. THEN in addition to the Nissan (which BTW I am PISSSSSED about - having to replace the ENTIRE clutch system after one year and 11K miles) I bought my husband the RX8 this year. So far 2300 miles and still brand spakin new. I love flooring the 8...after the turbo and new dual exhaust was put in this baby just flies over the road. I would totally give up my truck for another 8 if I didn't owe so much AND just pay $1300 for a new clutch!

I had a friend, many years ago, who told me I skateboard with cars.
He was right.
I love driving the same way a skateboarder might approach his favorite launch. Give me the right curve...the right 90 degree angle to mess with, and... wait for it....wait for it....oh f*ck yeah.
I went through two saturns. (Don't ask. I was young. I knew not what I did.)
one honda civic. (holy sh*t 40mpg!!! but that was it...no,vroom vroom)
and now i drive a rx-8.
Oh, sweet jesus thank you

I had me a 95' Dodge Stealth. It was pearl white with a black leather interior. That car was great, had it for 3 years and it never gave me any trouble. I hit 147mph in that when I first bought it. I miss the quick acceleration when taking off from a stop. But... when I saw an Rx8 pass me on the freeway, I fell in love with the look of the car. I went to test drive one and took one home the same day. I couldn't be happier. It's the best car I have driven!!!
