The RX-8 is my second car, but I still have the first: a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS. She just turned over to 170k not too long ago (141k of those are mine), and aside from some clear coat peel on the drivers side and the cruise control not working, it still runs like a champ! :D
The car has had its battles, though. I walked out of my HS one day to see a the on-site copy behind it. I came around his car to see that the moron that parked next to me had taken his fender halfway down the drivers side. I was hoping I'd be able to change to a different parking spot afterward, but our principal was a douche and wouldn't allow it (assigned parking, for those who are curious).
I also was in my first accident in this car. I was being tailgated pretty hard by a 350z, when the two cars out front slammed their brakes. My brakes paid for themselves that day, as I didn't hit the guy in front of me, buuuuut...then I got piledriven by the 350z. Long story short, his **** got totaled, his buddy ratted him out for tailgating, and I got my car fixed while he didn't (how do you NOT have full coverage on a 350z you "just got"?!).
In hindsight, I should've just taken the check and put it towards my RX-8...$1400 could've gotten me a fair few things C'est la vie, right?

'07 Suzuki Swift. Not available in America. Bought new. Great car. Drove it for many years without a license lol. Still have it.
'08 Mazda 3. Bought new. My first official car. Love it to death. One of the main reasons that made me buy an RX-8. Still have it.
'13 BMW 520d. Bought new as a family car. Very comfortable. Very solid. Bit daft without the adaptive dampers. Didn't check that option oh well. Still a great a car. Now sold.
'12 RX-8 Spirit R. Bought almost new. By far the best car I've ever owned. Loving it so much, I don't think I'll ever sell it.

1. '88 Ford Aerostar (first vehicle, I could fit 15 friends in that badboy; too bad I didn't have that many)
2. '92 Saturn SL2 (Would you believe your grandparents could rip you off? Niether did I until I bought a car from them.)
3. '99 VW Jetta 2.Slow (returned 2 days later when I found out it was a flood car)
4. '99 VW Passat 1.8T (The best car I seldom drove. $3000+ of CPO warranty work done over two years).
5. '06 Scion tC (The best car I didn't know that I didn't want. It was actually a really nice car, just wasn't for me.)
6. '05 RX-8 MT (This car is viral. My buddy test drove one while killing some time buying a Mazda6 for his girlfriend and he bought it. I test drove his and had to buy it. I let a co-worker drive me to lunch in mine and he's searching Autotrader for his now )
We had the Scion for about 3 months. The wife and I were supposed to share it and she was going to learn to drive stick. After several weeks of failed attempts at leaving various parking lots (she was fine in the lot but would just freeze on public roads), she gave up. She could never get over her phobia of somebody being mildly inconvenienced by having to wait behind her while she figured out the right clutch/gas ratio. So I decided to trade the Scion in for the RX-8. I figure if she's never going to drive it, it doesn't have to be such a compromise.

7. Sold the '8 while in school and immediately regretted it. Bought a NA Miata after graduation.
8. Discovered my '8 was up for sale again, sold the Miata, bought MY RX-8 back.
Somewhere in there we also owned a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe (replaced my wife's '98 Saturn SL1) that was traded in for a 2009 Infiniti G37x.

In recent years I've had a Ford ZX2, a 2002 WRX wagon, and a Scion xB. I currently have a Honda Fit, 91 and 97 Miatas, and a 1923 Model T hot rod. I do not yet own an RX8.
I'm older than most here and started driving in the seventies, so I've owned a lot of big old American cars, like a couple of Impalas, a 71 Charger (boring version with 318, 2 bbl carb, single exhaust, probably would have run 17s in the 1/4 mile) 66 Dart, 71 Valiant, some other stuff.

My previous car
Hi. I'm new here.
I'm in a 2009 R3. My previous car was a Cadillac CTR. I got it because my daughter started riding with me. Prior to that was a 2005 RX8 manual. I traded in a 2006 automatic RX8 for it. Just couldn't enjoy the automatic.

Jedi - you forgot to update your list.................
73 Audi Fox with 4 speed
77 F250 2wd auto
87 Ford Tempo with 5 speed
86 F250 4x4 diesel with 4 speed (rolled it)
89 F250 4x4 diesel with 5 speed
77 Malibu with auto
87 Taurus wagon auto
84 2500 Suburban auto
90 Taurus wagon auto
14 Mazda 6 auto (current DD)
07 RX8 with 6 speed
until I made up the list I didn't think I had gone through that many vehicles and most were driven into high mileage or high rust conditions. Several were primarily driven by my wife, she currently has a 16 Outback 3.6

well technically I don't need to update it because the OP's actual question was:
which means this answer is still accurate
Now that said, it appears this thread is more about listing all the cars we drove before the 8 so maybe I can post that list as well.

LOL, point taken since I didn't read the OP or previous pages and just followed examples on the last page. For me since the 8 is just a weekend car it didn't replace a specific previous car and the 6 is still the DD.
