What's the fastest speed you ever done?

Well, whether 165MPH is some kind of mythical speed on an RX-8 or not, I did it; believe it or not. In the end it may not be about the car being special, it maybe about me having the big cojones to do it, because if a toyota camry, a grocery getter essentially, can do 130mph, how come an RX8 can't do 165mph? I bet that most of you guys have not pushed your RX8s to the limits, therefore you don't know what they're capable of.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the Camry (V6) has fairly similar acceleration as the 8 does. In fact, there's a pretty good chance it would be faster than you in the 1/4 mile. If you care about acceleration that much, you got the wrong car. I'm sorry to inform you that the RX-8's acceleration is slow. It's not bad and pretty well balanced for the car, but it's honestly slow when compared to a lot of cars today.
You can continue to claim that you hit 165 on a flat surface, but that doesn't make it any more possible. Either your speedometer is off a little which at those speeds would make a significant difference, or you were on a decline. A 3% error is all that's needed to make the jump from 160 mph to 165 mph.

Oh I believe you but you need to hold down that button on the tac and change it from kph to mph. So ok you did 165kph = 102mph that should have felt fast. Now lets get serious there are people on here and who have posted on this thread that have owned rotary's there whole life and the 8 since it was born. There are many people and threads dedicated to to finding the top speed of a stock RX8 and it has been well established. There are many videos out there of track and street i.e. autobahn and not one in six years has managed to break 158ish, so your giant ***** must have magic powers that dont get you laid but make your car go faster. Its not wise to insult people who know much more than you.

Quite a few of you are stupid.
And I am not referring to the speed you went. But the fact that you are posting in a public google-searchable forum. Even disregarding the potential legal complications, one member on here had his warranty voided by Mazda for no other reason than he posted on here that he exceeded 100mph.
Right or wrong and how you feel about them doing that, the fact is, it DID happen, and he was never successful in getting it overturned.
Do you really want to go through the same thing?
The few videos being posted are just compounding that stupidity...

A stock RX8 only has enough horsepower to do about 155 mph on a straight and level road. Bolt-on mods won't affect that much. On a dyno, it can top out at 187 mph (redline, 6th gear).

Hell ya man!
People calling BS on the RX8 going 165mph, hatin on there own car psssshhh please they dunno what the hell there talking about. They jus dont have the ***** to do it.
I never got mine to 190mph but I got so close a couple times! Is yours a Shinka?
Mine use to go 0-60 in like 5 seconds so know its fast.

I guess the only Q i have for Xavier is what size are your wheels/tires? I guess I kind of question it as well, just for the fact that cars with 100 more horsepower, C5 vette, and weighing the same or less, topped out at 175ish. Though when going at those speeds, each mph is exponentially harder to achieve due to drag. Also wound out 6th gear on dynos produces numbers in the 185 mph range, and thats with 0 drag. I dont really care either way, but all things being equal, it looks like a high number for the 8.
Me personally, as a driver 120ish in a C5, and as a passenger, 5 people in a 2001 WS6 going like 145. Ya, probably wasnt smart looking back, but im still here right?

...I think you got the intent of my post backwards.
I'm just suggesting people that don't want to risk their warranty, license, etc... go back and delete/edit posts.
My speed post made no reference to being in a car, on the street, etc... In fact, it's obvious from the speed number that I am either A) lying, or B) not in a car on the ground (was in a 737)

as far as mazda is concerened with speeds and warranty work cant they just pull that info out of your computer? when i got my trans replaced under warranty the tech said he looked at some reading and than told me that i was driving my car properly if not a little crazy.

SOME data is certainly stored, but it is of limited duration and/or limited scope.
In your case, he was looking at the freeze-frame data of what the conditions were like for one or more CEL's. When a CEL is thrown, the ECU DOES store various input data points, one of which is speed.
But, eventually it does reset and clear out even that. Many cars (no idea if the 8 is one or not) has a rolling record of the past few seconds of driving, that freezes if the airbags deploy, so there is a record of the data points just prior to the crash. Again, it can't be stored forever. There are limitations to any data storage method.
And even though it doesn't take much memory to store data points for a 'table', just think of how big the file size would end up.
Averaging ~35mph of the life of the car, taking data points in intervals of 1/10th of a second to get at least semi-accurate speed readings is 102 million records at the 100,000 mile mark. That is alot to store on an ECU, and more importantly, alot to dig through to determine what peaks there were, how frequently over a certain speed, etc...
