What's the fastest speed you ever done?
#103
Not me personally, but had a friend do over 260km/h (~165mph) in a '95 Mustang... the front passenger tire was a bald spare all the while taking a picture on a 1 lane street, and realizing that there is a van in front of him that he is quickly catching up on... I'm surprised the spare didn't blow and well, you know; or that he stopped quickly enough... The picture shows the speedometer at the needle and his RPM's just below 4500 with the van the black little speck in the background, probably about 200-300m in front of him.

I suppose I should add the disclaimer of "do not try this at home"... it's all common sense... something my friend should have had... but he was young and live and let learn...

Done 165mph on my 2006 Acura TL, On 2nd day I got my license.I could have gone faster... but had to slow down due to Red light. Max I've done on my rx8 was about 125-130mph.

Whether there might have been an error on the speedometer or not, I was there, I was driving the car and I saw it with my own eyes. This thread is not about my speed, read the title of the thread and it will say "What's the fastest speed you've ever done" not "do you guys believe I went 165mph on my RX8?" I know is a big deal for some of you to deem everything you read or see on the Internet as fake, so think whatever you want. You know what they say about arguments on the Internet...

Also, you finally admitted that there could have been an error in your speedometer. At that point, it doesn't matter what you saw, it was inaccurate. Just because you saw 165 doesn't mean you were going 165.
I'm not telling you whether I believe you hit 165 on a flat surface or not. I'm telling you I know you didn't do it.

Following your logic, if you claimed you hit 200 mph, we shouldn't have questioned it either since that's not the point of the thread.
Also, you finally admitted that there could have been an error in your speedometer. At that point, it doesn't matter what you saw, it was inaccurate. Just because you saw 165 doesn't mean you were going 165.

Regardless,
If you are looking at the speedo, it is prob. wrong at that speed anyway. Only way to really tell is GPS.

GPS isn't perfect either. Look a couple of pages back. I already posted its a useless fight unless you had your speedometer calibrated. They come from the factory reading slow, then if you change your tires to something other than stock size its off again. PLUS not all tires are made the same. Some of the tread patterns change the actual size, not the mounting size, plus tread wear as the tire gets older. I have had my car timed to see if the speedometer was off, and it was. I have not yet found someone willing to calibrate it.

The speedometer is not as accurate as a GPS, it can easily be off by 3%. If your going "160mph", you're off by 5mph. The GPS will give you the right speed. This is a major issue on motorcycles since thee sensor is on the front wheel (the faster you go, the less accurate it gets), you need a speedo healer to have the correct speed or a GPS when going at high speeds.
