I love driving with my "gills" open. Reduces wind noise, lets you hear the engine real well, makes the car look more exotic from all angles, and increases air flow through the 100 degree cabin.
However, I HATE the goddamned acrobatic feat required to open and close them everytime you get in and out of the car! I'm tired of it! I want power rear windows... NOW.
Problem is I have NO CLUE what SUVs/Trucks/Minivans have powered rear "gill" windows. I know they exist, I just don't know where to look, or what they're called. I figure I'll just find out which cars had them, and order the damn window motor from a dealership (unless anyone knows of a place that sells uncommon OEM parts for less).
...I would love to know why Mazda didn't make power rear windows on the RX-8...

I know power VENTS is what they were called on Chrysler Vans(Dodge Grand Caravan, and Chrysler T + C). They had sideways facing toggle switches and motors that pushed it out with a rotational path if I remember.

Need specific Makes/Models/Years.
I already tried just going to a GM dealership and asking them. They knew exactly what I was talking about, they just didn't know off the top of their heads which cars they came on or what they were called... thus, they couldn't get me prices nor order them for me :/

I tried to do this a couple years ago. The biggest hurdle is finding a way to mount this motor onto the existing design on our rear vent windows. I never use my rear vent windows just because it causes too much grief. Good luck on this journey. I've tried to do this to an extent, but stopped after realizing that even though I order all the electronic parts, I would still need to find a way to mount them in a way that it would look OEM.

you've been thinking about this for a couple months now haven't you? i dropped a search into google and was amused to find one of the top returned items was from our own rx8club.com. anyway, i found that the 2001 dodge caravan and 1998 chrysler minivan were a couple that shot out right away. if you do this i hope you take good notes and documentation to get a good DIY out of it. this sounds like a great idea. i don't use mine because i forget about them since i'm too lazy but would like the ability to pop them open to get better air flow.

I guess I'll try to hit up a Dodge dealership this upcoming weekend; the Caravan sounds like the only one anyone is sure of.
Over a year, actually. I keep my schedule pretty jam-packed so I'm only able to dedicate an hour or so every other week to this "project", which is just enough time to google for the motor and fail.
That's the plan...
...either that or make a whole bunch and sell them to everyone

No - it's not a matter of how long it takes. I've pretty much mastered the process so that's it's one quick double-whip-around-and-back manuver. The only time it really pisses me off is when I leave for work because I'm wearing a button-down tucked-in shirt. When I lean way back and reach behind me I pull the shirt up, which not only untucks it, but it pulls my underwear up gives me a half-assed wedgie.
So not only am I sore from having to stretch myself out so shortly after waking up, but now I've got underwear up my ***. To make things worse, the humidity in Houston is almost always infinity percent - sometimes more in the early mornings - so my leather seats pull my underwear up a little bit deeper into my crack after every stop, go, bump, turn, and breath. By the time I get to work I look like I just got out of a fight, and I'm about as pleasant as if I just got out of one as well.
My untucked shirt wads up behind me while I drive, which gets combined with extreme heat and humidity (+ sweat), virtually ironing a cocaphony of wrinkles into it. All of the shuffling and shimming I do on the drive in an attempt to save my ******* from a cotton invasion creates wrinkles all over the back of my pants, and - if I'm lucky - is complimented by soaked-through sweat.
I hate hot weather. I hate humidity. And I hate the cruel irony in the fact that sudden drops in temperature and humidity give me cripling migraines (no A/C)!!
....so....
....yeah....
....really anxious to get those gills powered....

I have thought about it. My Mom has a 96 caravan with the power windows, they still work after 11 years. It looks like the mechanism would work on the 8, but I dont know if the motor assembly would fit in the door, the D pillar on the Van is bigger than space we would have.
