When is the RX-8 gonna get ... the treatment??? That things got 263hp!!! I mean come on. Just come up with a factory turbo/sc for the 8 with warranty. The 8 really doesn't anything else except for more power.

Mazda, just give my 8 MORE POWER!!!! NOT ANOTHER CAR I HAVE TRADE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*pant, pant, pant*

.... sorry. Good commercial. Very Robot Chicken like.

so.... you're praying for a SC/Turbo factory rx-8. When that happens, many like you will want to upgrade... can you imagine what that will do to sales of the rx-8? You can barely offload them now.

I say just take the 5k you're going to lose when you sell your current RX-8, and have it turbocharged.

you'll make more power than a factory rx-8 FI solution, and you'll beat the snot out of the FWD MS3.

I can't wait for the rush of 18 year old douche bag kiddies driving around in their MazdaSpeed3...it's like the SRT4 all over again.

The fact that they can make a commercial touting the Hi performance of the 3 just makes me wish that the 8 had more. Mazdas only screw up was in making the 8 such a low power car. The numbers the Mazdaspeed 6 and Mazdaspeed 3 are putting down should be what the 8 puts down. The 8 is the flagship. From the factory the 8 should've done 5.5 0-60 and 14 sec 1/4 mile. With those numbers the Mazdaspeed vehicles would just be coming up to match not surpas.

Now although it would never....ever...ever happen due to too many reasons, it would have been nifty if the MazdaSpeed series were all rotary engines.

given the problems with the rx-8 and all it's headaches - plus declining sales and low resale value, i think we're going to be lucky to even see a 2008 model. A FI version of it seems unlikely.

Honestly, I think most rx-8's have few problems and they run really well, but the public image of it is vastly different, giving mazda a black eye. Also the rx-8 is too much of an niche vehicle, and there aren't enough buyers for such a car.

Whatever Mazda has to do to get the 8 to come from the factory with 30 or more hp stock, they should do. If they're not going to make a Mazdaspeed version, the base should at least be as quick as their Mazdaspeed cars.

As for me, I won't be racing any Mazdaspeed 3s anytime soon.

Funny, I just posted this on an earlier thread;

It’s weird that there is so many posts here about the MS6 or MS3 being “faster.” I doubt they’d be faster on a track, but yeah they should be slightly faster accelerating, all else being equal.

Automotive media doesn’t seem to care. I’ve must of seen over a dozen stories on the MS6 and MS3, not one of them bothered to recognize that they are "faster" or more powerful than the flagship 8. Could it be because they know that these cars couldn’t be more different?? "Hmmm, should I get a sedan, station wagon or sportcar" USUALLY doesn't happen.

Besides, if it was all about 0-60 times, why don’t we just save ourselves a shitload of money and buy some $5000 riced out shitbox? My neighbor’s son has a 15 year old Eclipse with an aftermarket turbo that looks bigger than its 2.0 liter engine, should I swap cars with him?

Too bad the car is a hatchback. I dont know too many people that just drool over hatch backs, no matter the performance.if they did the regular 4 door it would most likely do better sales wise and i would like it much better. Hot hatches just arnt a craze in america (thank god). Its a waste of the few cars to get the mazdaspeed treatment imo.

280ft/lb of torque too, change the exhaust, and you'll probably see close to 300crank hp, if this engine is the same as the mazdaspeed 6 with the same tune, only with a really restrictive exhaust... oh and this is FWD too, less drivetrain loss than the speed6, which dynos around 230awhp and 270ft/lb with CPE exhaust.. to the wheels

I think it matters a lot. Case in point, take a look at the new Porsche Cayman. Porsche took great pains to make sure the Cayman wasn't as fast as the 911 regardless of trim level. They have a performance heiarchy that they won't even cross. How can they tought the 911 as great when their own lower model is faster.

I know what you're thinking. Mazdaspeed is a different line. True, but there is no Mazdaspeed RX8, and the flagship should be the fastest, particularly if it's to most sportiest. who would want an NSX if the RSX type S and TL type S was faster. SRT Chryslers and Dodges still aren't faster than the Viper. V-series Caddies aren't faster than the Vette. (they're all GM)

The issue is, most carmakers go through great pains upgrading engines and whatever to make their flagship SPORTS car the best performer in all categories. I know the RX-8 is better on the track, but I'm sure it's only marginally better handling. The Mazdaspeeds make up for that handling defecit in raw power. The RX-8 is due for more power.

Man the Mazdaspeed3 is a seriously awesome car. If I had 23k to blow, I wouldn't hesitate a bit in purchasing one.

Funny vid.. reminded me of some riced out CRXs from back in the day.

If these are Mazda's commercials, we know the demographic they are going for.

What? Enthusiasts? Racers? It's funny that 99% of the commercials I see for Mazda are on the Speed channel. I for one like it.

Please note that in that movie when the MS3 swurved to avoid the pickup truck it wasnt able to move out of the way of the food cart. Unlike a Rx-8 which would of easily done so

Well sadly when it does come out I'm going to be seeing ALOT of these around my area. In my area the 3 hatchbacks out number the sedans by atleast 3/1 and I would be a owner of one if not for seeing my baby on the sales floor

A good point though has been brought up, The Rx-8 is supposed to be Mazda's Flagship car thier version of a Corvette something people come in and drool over saying "Man I wanna own that one day". But now why are people going to say that, be like Chevy having the Cobalt SS have more Hp than the Corvette. Why spend the 40k for the Corvette when you could spend 22k for the Cobalt SS. I know this subject has been beaten to death but had to atleast say sumthing about it

Just to play devil's advocate.. there may be a bit of conjecture as to exactly which model is Mazda's official "flagship."

In the late '80s, the 929 was referred to as the flagship sedan. In the 90s it was the millenia. Today it would be argued that the MazdaSpeed 6 is Mazda's flagship...

I have seen J.D Power refer to the RX8 to as "Mazda's flagship performance coupe" which narrows the field down.. know what I mean?

I'm honestly not sure what the official flagship of Mazda is.. just wanted to throw that out. Something to think about. I'm curious to know what Mazda considers its REAL flagship to be. I get the feeling it's NOT the RX8.

I would be terribly surprised if they claimed the 8 as the flagship. Who wants a car with so low sales as the flagship? It's a niche vehicle. Let's just love it eh?
