Mazda-powered Pac Performance Mazda6 is the World’s Fastest Rotary! Category: Motorsport
18/09/09
The Pac Performance Mazda6 has officially become the world’s fastest rotary-powered vehicle over 400 metres.
Running in qualifying at the Fuchs Australian Nationals at Western Sydney International Dragway last Saturday, driver Rocky Rehayem pushed his Mazda6 over the quarter-mile in just 6.752 seconds at a terminal speed of 201mph.
This supreme effort bettered the previous world record held by Abel Ibarra from California USA which had stood since 2005, making the Pac Performance Mazda6 the fastest rotary anywhere in the world.
An appreciative crowd of over 30,000 was there to see history being made and race fans were delighted to see an Australian team claim the title of the world’s fastest rotary. The Pac Performance Mazda6 had shown promise in the months leading up to the Nationals and for many, this world- beating run was what they had been waiting to see.
The 2008 Mazda6 Pac Performance car has been heavily modified to compete on the drag racing circuit. Power is delivered via a single-turbo, triple-rotor Mazda engine which has been on the receiving end of some cutting edge engineering by brothers Rocky and George Rehayem and the crew at Pac Performance. These enhancements have resulted in the Mazda rotary producing in excess of 1,500 horsepower.
Additional strength and weight savings are achieved by the use of aerospace-grade materials throughout the Pac Performance Mazda6. The chassis is chrome-moly while the body and brakes are full carbon fibre. Steering components are constructed from titanium while magnesium alloy is used for the transmission case.
Initially attracted to rotary engines because of their simplicity, Sydney-based Pac Performance has established itself at the forefront of rotary technology in Australia. This most recent success has been built on many years of experience gained through the development and racing of high performance rotary engines.

wtf... 1500hp from 3 rotors?
That is insane. What is more interesting is that we all know it has the basic housings and plates from a normal rotary engine.

hahah stealth got to it before me but lets not forget that Jim Mederer and team put the car back together and did it again with the wheels down
this version has the in car camera view of the flip and includes the later run after the car was fixed and painted black. Mind the black car run is 242mph. Of course he had a little more distance to play with than Rocky Rehayem in his Pac Performance Mazda6

Do they have the same engine in the black FD? 3-rotor single turbo @ 800+hp.

The fastest rotary powered drag car over 1/4 mile is still Abel Ibarra although this car is very impressive. Abel ran 209.99 mph. As far as ETs go this run is slightly quicker tha Abel's number but is not under the strictest NHRA standards. It needs to be repeated. Don't get me wrong; I'm very impressed by this Down Under 3 rotor. He just has to do a little more to unseat Abel.
Fastest vs Quickest is the issue. Abel may still be king of both.

^from what I understand thats what hes saying. the acceleration rates between the two vehicles could have been different throughout its distance causing the Abels car to finish faster at slower time.

Don't be surprised it came from a 3 rotor. You can get above 1500hp out of that motor if you really want to push it. Ex. 500-600 daily on that motor is nothing compared to what it is capable of. It will get you just over 400 NA. There is just so much you can do to that motor.

Yes, he finished at a higher rate of speed signifying more hp although his turbo is slightly smaller. He is also 3 rotor powered.
Here's a test run of the 1/8 mile: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTG_iVXabfw

pretty cool and very impressive. I emailed the team congratulating them, who knows we may get a little comment from them. Although there probably a little busy considering its the middle of summer on the other half of the world from where i am.

OMG! This may beat it.
Ok this drag car is just insane before you laugh at he chrome and gold, and tv's inside the car, this thing actually performs and lays down some pretty good times on the track. The car is said to be sporting a quad rotary setup and producing over 1664hp, and quarter mile in less than 7 sec.
Also check out the RX-8 in the back with the huge bling bling wheels. Bleh!
