Would this work, or am I retarded?
I was doing some searches and found a thread where some1 was ripped on for wanting a roof vent ( which if im not mistaken is used to cool the interior cabin of the car)
Anyway I was wondering since it takes in the air thats coming at it from the front, instead of directing that air inside the cabin, would there be a way to have it stretch through to the back of the roof, and take the air thats coming in to push it out the rear?
I was just thinking that the extra pressure would give the car an extra push thus making it faster?

Anybody got a wind tunnel? Seems like what you would be doing is turning your roof into a spoiler or diffusor. You'd either have to make the roof higher or lower to achieve this to create enough dead space to accomplish this. Before I go on a rant about what you would possible need to figure out to make this happen I will say this...
Doing this you will probably upset the flow of air too much to the effect of not causing enough air to flow down the rear of the car, thus causing the opposite of your intention. This is probably why it hasn't been done before and why on some cars you have fins at the top and rear of the roof, to help direct the flow of air.

hmm interesting, this is an answer I was looking for thankz.
So your saying not to upset the flow of air it would have to be higher or lower.
So what if somewhere along the bottom side edge of the car you had vents that streched all the way through to the rear, would that work?

While you can create a low pressure from a reversed hood scoop at the back of the roof and draw air out of the cabin, you will not be getting any 'push' from that. There is only so much air you draw out before the cabin would find a way to replenish the lack of air inside. I'm sure someone like BlueEyes can chime in and give you a better explanation than I can since this is right up his alley.
I said rather than have the scoop direct the air inside it would push it out of the back of the roof instead
So basically it would collect the air from the front and through a lil tunnel and such push it out of the back.
Its not something from nothing when you are going 60 mpg there is lots of air pressure so my thinking is why cant you take some of the energy thats present/being wasted and use it to your advantage?
The previous dude said it would disrupt the balance unless it was igher or lower, so my other question was why not create this same lil tunnel system somewhere in the lower part of the body to try and channel the air out that way?

The roof thing seems like a good idea on paper, but would probably cause too much chaos and wind up having your roof blown off. You ever hear horror stories about how people forget to latch down their hood all the way? Once they pick up speed....PHOOOOOMMM!!! Winshield and Hood destroyed!! With typical hoods being over 100lbs and going as slow as 65 mph can cause you to have a very bad day. Most likely the top of your roof would cave in and just be totally ineffective creating a pancaked dorky roof that looked like someone sat on it.
Side vents are already implemented in some high-end cars, like Ferrari and Porshe, which is why you see so many cars with psuedo-side vents.

So the side vents on the high end cars, they collect the air being thrown from the front of the car and push it out the rear? Nice...
Do you have a link as to what kind of advantage it has in terms of hp, mpg savings or anything like that?

Nahh, I'm only remembering about things I've read. You should be able to find some stuff if you look in the right places, where those places would be? I have no idea. This is where the firefox add-on stubmle-upon might come in handy

So let me get this straight. You're hoping that a tube on your roof would function like a jet engine and rocket you along?
....why don't you try running a sprint with a paper towel tube taped to your head, and let me know if you break any records.
Yeah, you're retarded.
And no, that is NOT how side vents work. The functional side vents on Ferraris are because Ferraris are mid-engine cars, and the side scoops channel air past radiators and coolers, the way a hood scoop or grill would if the engine was actually under the hood.

Damn you all should relax, im not an engineer I had an idea and im asking about it.
No one said a jet engine.
Right now there is air pressure when you drive faster.
All I was aksing was since it is already there, would there be a way to harness some of it to your advantage ie: a tube constructed in a way to collect and circulate the air and push it out to give you a lil extra bump.
If not fine, thats why I was ASKING.
holy **** some of you need to cut back on the coffee.

Maybe it's an attempt to reduce lift but like someone said earlier the roog will get blown off due to the lift.
