So I was walking on campus here and I saw this car and had no idea wtf it was. I went ahead and took two pictures of the car with my phone, I've never seen this car before, anyone know about it?

 

It's a Qvale Mangusta.

 

Thats it lol! Never seen or heart of it before.

 

Uh, next time you may want to look at the back of the car...kinda says it right on there. But yeah, never even heard of it before.

That's it, later sold as a De Tomaso Mangusta.

 

They're pretty rare, I'm not sure if they're even still in production. They have a Ford V8, but the body is built in Modena. Qvale is the Family that imports/imported them to the states, but this car does have some ties and roots based in DeTomaso fame. It's a good car overall, but mainly the person that buys one is a collector or just wants a really rare car and has 70k to blow.

The DeTomaso name was dropped for this car, as far as I know it has never had a DeTomaso badge on it, at least not in the US.

 

I can read the "Qvale" part. Then it's just a Google search after that.

Not being able to read the make off a car through a picture taken by a camera phone and then searching Google for the model is so 5 years ago.

Gran Turismo ftw! Seriously though I'm pretty sure the number of DeTomaso/Qvale cars in America would easily be under the 100 mark. My personal fave is the Guara, its lke an Italian NSX.

 

there is a mangusta dealership in san antonio, back when i lived there i saw a handfull driving around town.

 

I've heard of it as well--it has a trick top that is targa and retractable hardtop.

 

They sell about 200 a year of the Qvale Mangusta. Also, there are plenty of DeTomaso cars in the US, not common but more common than you think.

 

when i first saw it, i thought that it was a miata comibined with a FD. lol. Qvale Mangusta
never heard of this car. but it must have been a very heavy car. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds with a V8 in it. that is kind of slow.

Its comlpex motorized top adds alot of weight. They never were really popular with magazines and all.

Before the car made it to production the partnership between DeTomaso and Qvale was broken, once in production it never had a DeTomaso badge on it.

 

It is a Ford V8, at least that was what they sold in the US anyway. It was the old 4V Cobra motor that made 320HP and 335??Torque. If memory serves me correctly, it even has the instrument cluster out of the last version Mustang GT/Cobra. They are a few years old, and there was all sorts of problems between DeTamoso, Qvale and even Ford, so not sure how many they even sold here. It has been over 4 years since I saw and sat in one, pretty nice, kind of heavy, sort of looked like it was pieced together from a bunch of parts bin items, which it is, but it was comfortable and you could see out of it very well with the top down.

Not enough detail, but you can tell from the dash layout it looks like a Mustang, even the center stack appears as if it may have been borrowed.

 

What's up with the all these random links you get when you use the WYSIWYG editor? I tried using it and half the time my posts would come out with these various words with hyperlinks pointing to a URL of "#". I know there is some sort of advertising thing with the green links, but this just appears to be a bug. Anyone?
