GOOD GUY: Chip at Chip's Motorsports, MI

Chip is the man! Now, let me tell you why.

Like any good red blooded car guy; two things are true. 1) I worry about my wife, and if she is being taken advantage of by mechanics; and 2) She won't listen to a f00kin word I say on how to take care of her car.

So, I am deployed far far away - and she drives her Speed6 to Michigan to visit family friends; with a car doing "weird things" and "weird noises".

Then, lo and behold, a CEL light comes on, she doesn't have the warranty paperwork and the dealership is being a-holes (big surprise).

Like any rotary nerd, I reach out to my RX8 brethren here on the club and ask for help from people I trust a lot more than a dealer. I get hit up by Chip, and lets me know he is willing to help out, I tell Kimi, and I think we are good.

The following day, the better half gets an oil change at one of those Jiffy Lube places *I know, I know* - and these clowns leave the oil cap off, she drives away - oil goes everywhere, the CEL is on, the car is making a weird ticking noise and she is generally, stranded, freaked out and it is all my fault of course.

I get yelled at for a few hours on IM, fat lot of good I can do - but hey, I am a dude... it's my fault.

She FINALLY contacts Chip, goes to his shop - gets the CEL read, noise checked out, and he even washed out the oil from the engine bay.... for free. She is happy, I am happy, car still needs to be fixed, but it won't blow up on the way home.

Awesome, Chip you are the man. I really appreciate you looking out for mine. And despite THIS picture that came to my email from Kimi while waiting for the car to get fixed (you lucky bastard). I am in your debt my man. And I always pay if I owe, so I will try to help out you and yours.

So, those of you near Detroit and are in need of a good shop that does some sick work (reference picture below). Look Chip up, if your car is in his shop and requires tuning; have Chip hit me up, and I'll do it for free.

WOW..THAT'S A HELL OF A NICE ENGINE BAY...

Good to hear that the car is OK....I worry about the same thing everytime I go away. Seems like everytime I am gone for the weekend something happens

Couldn't imagine being gone as long as you have been deployed...

I have a friend that is a car guy...and she phones him now when I'm gone..

Yeah, it sucks man. I have lost two wheels on my car, one on hers (lol yeah seriously).

If she is local to my AOR then I can usually get a good hook up, but being out of town was tough. Luckily Chip was a super cool guy and saved the day.

I should also note: to all the MI people who helped me out here, drinks are on me next time I am there. But you only get ONE drink, happy hour, no top shelf...and the bar has to be located in Lincoln Park... HAHA -- Kidding.

great story and glad Chip came to the rescue, he sounds like an awesome guy who does AWESOME work (based on your story and that sexy pic)

so do we know what this weird noise is that Kimi is describing?
I'd help but she moved away from me. Maybe I scared her off?

Not 100% sure. Could be a loose spark plug or a pulley that is clicking.

I am bumping this thread because I my 8 was running like crap, I brought it to see Rotoryfreak aka chip @ chipsmotorsports, he swapped out my plugs and coils (replaced with bhr) while I had a hard time taking the clutch peadal assembly off, when he was done, he welded my bracket for me too. It's good to know guys like this around the metro Detroit area. I'll be taking it back to install a sohn adapter soon enough.
I was very happy with the service.

I'm really looking forward to seeing those concave rims by you Chip~

Your 7 is amazing btw.

Chip did my engine rebuild over Jan and Feb '16. He kept me up to date and documented the entire process via photos. I can tell by the outcome that he really cares about the work that he does and I couldn't be happier with the way it all worked out.

^^I can't fathom why anyone would make that intake setup out of stainless steel rather than aluminum. Throw out the boat anchor Gilligan, wtf ...

Appearance over weight?
Would aluminum be less durable or prone to cracking/warping?

it makes as much sense as a peri-port Renesis over a pro-built REW
