NEGATIVE: Bad Mazda Dealerships

casey auto group/mazda-newport news, va
i have read this site since 10/07. this is my first posting (tho i have gleaned lots of info, thanks), my hate for casey auto is this strong. i lived in NN for 5 years in the late 90's, owning 2 hondas and an '87 turbo rx-7. every experience with every car at both mazda and honda was negative. so much so that to this day, i wish for their eventual financial insolvency. i bought one of the hondas from them, and they tried multiple times after the sale to alter the price. (we need more money. there was a mistake here. there was a mistake there). mazda specific, i took the rx-7 in for a state inspection and had problems that weren't there during the 7 years of prior ownership "appear," thus failing the inspection. i went internet and did all of my repairs myself. they weren't happy. same type of things "went wrong" w/the hondas. (i tried the service dept cause i bought a car there, big mistake. shifted back to williams honda)
in short, casey exists due to the high turn over of the area (military town) and the influx of new, unaware customers. the locals know. they warned me, i ignored them. i am warning you.

aikibil, I see you spend time in Marietta. You should take your Mazda to Charlie at Mazcare if you want the best service you can get and he knows the RX-7 in and out, not to mention, he's a dang nice guy.
.. and welcome to the first post club!

Tumminia Mazda - Olathe, KS
Sales: POSITIVE - fair price from the get-go.
Info: NEGATIVE - I was informed that winter tires were unnecessary, and that sand bags would be fine, from 2 different sales people. I later brought this up in conversation for my first oil change (which I'll get to that next) and a different sales person laughed at the thought.
Service: Sweet jesus NEGATIVE. Oil change took 3 hours. No problem, except I was told 20-30 minutes and that I could hang out and wait. Gets worse. Brought it there one last time for a flat tire. They fixed it... and forgot to fill the tire with air. It had absolutely 0 PSI. Wonderful.
For all reading, go to Steve Oliver Mazda (formerly Rob Sight) on State Line for service. They rock in every way possible. The guys are fun to chat with, and they voluntarily look for any other issues you may be having that you dont mention. They repaired some collapsing engine mounts when I brought it in only for an oil change.

Riley Mazda, Stamford, CT NEGATIVE!!!
How hard is it to remember to put back on all 4 valve-stem caps after swapping from Summer to tyres to Winter tyres? Apparently, too difficult for them.
How difficult was it to perform all of the steps for the TSB involving the latest PCM flash? Again, apparently too difficult. According to the itimized bill, vacuum check was performed but not the PCM flash, and I gave them a hard copy of the TSB, listing the entire procedure when it went in for the service.

It's part of a trend of errors, so yes that's one of my complaints against them
Riley Mazda, Stamford, CT NEGATIVE (still)
I'm just saying that the simplest thing to get right, swapping Summer for Winter tyres, was something they couldn't get right, and adding insult to injury, they charged 30% more for their botched job than Stamford Mazda ever did (and Stamford Mazda never left parts off of my car when they gave it back to me).
It's a pet peeve of mine when you take a car in for service and it comes back missing parts it had when it went it.
Additionally, when it went in for the 30K mile service, even though I'd never had an issue with it ever failing to start on the first try, they reported to me that the battery had mysteriously failed and needed to be replaced. They charged me over twice what I could have paid for a brand new Optima Red Top when, in fact, I don't actually know that I needed it (the itemisation was missing the diagnostic test results that would have proven if the original battery was bad or not).
Basically, in my opinion, they have ZERO attention to detail, based on my two experiences with them, they are either very poor communicators with atrocious documenting skills, or they are outright dishonest. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they just might be grossly deficient in documenting; but it certainly could be worse. I will also point out that I'm also missing two engine cover grommets that I used to have.
Like I said, I hate when a car goes in for work, and parts are left behind when it's delivered back. I'm fortunate that I only know about minor parts having been left behind; but how do I really know that those are their only errors? They charged me close to a grand for that 30K mile service where they were supposed to do the PCM flash.
The sticker on my driver's door says I still have the PCM flash from October of 2005. Did they do the flash and neglect to document it or did they fail to do the flash that I expressly asked them to? I don't know, and I ought not have to wonder which it is.
I've actually got a call into Mazda USA to see if they have the answer on which flash their records say is installed on my car. It shouldn't even be a question!
I asked for the latest flash, supplied them with the documentation for the TSB, and paid out the nose for the work; but lost parts, didn't get the work done that I asked for, and was told that things were broken that I have no actual proof had any trouble.

Palm Beach Mazda..
Sales was great, support, was horrible. Only way I got them to do ANYTHING was to contact Mazda USA and have them put pressure on the dealership.
They accused me of destroying the transmission after only 500miles, and then kept feeding me bullshit about time estimates without even doing anything to fix the situation.
I heavily recommend avoiding these guys.

Mazda Dealership @ Roseville Automall: Absolutely terrible, I went in for my 30,000 and they said I needed new brake rotors and it's going to cost $$$$ despite the fact that I was still under warranty. I examined the rotors myself and seeing no problems said, I'll take it someplace else to get a second opinion thanks. They immediately turned around and said that they would do it at no charge. Shady much?

Brandywine Mazda (West Chester, PA)
Negative.
Rude service, warranty issues left unresolved.
Faulkner Mazda (Philadelphia, PA)
TERRIBLE.
Service manager lied to me about my starter already being replaced as specified by the service bulletin. Told him he was wrong, and called MNAO. Talked to someone there, and they didn't seem to be too concerned that a Dealer authorized service manager was lying to customers about work performed. Would not go back under any circumstances.
Nucar Mazda (New Castle, DE)
Pretty negative, but not as bad as the first two. They actually kept my car and looked at it, claimed they couldn't replicate the starting issues. At this point I gave up and just kept the old starter.
It's a wonder to me that Mazda has any sort of customer retention with the service I've received at most of the dealers in my area.

Park Mazda of Wooster - Ohio
Now, I've done some research and some people have had a good experience with this dealer... I did not.
My 04 got oil in the intake causing the SSV on the lower intake to get stuck causing the car to stall everytime it should have idled (no foot on gas)
They told me they would need to replace the airbox, throttle body, and possibly intake manifold and that the cat wasn't working properly, (see signature)
Wanted to charge me $6,500 for parts alone.
Luckily I called up the local RX8 Clubbers and they were able to diagnose and help fix the problem for under 100 bucks.
So, Did not have a good experience with Park Mazda of Wooster. But, some have... I wouldn't take my chances though.

Gaithersburg Mazda: Positive
Both the service department and the sales department are very professsional and cooperative.
They make car services simple, fast, and easy.
I would not take my rx8 to any other mechanics.

Royal Motors, San Juan, Puerto Rico
Service: Horrible definitely negative!
I dropped off my car two days ago (morning) to have the Radiator coolant canister replaced (a 1/2 hour job at the most) and was told to expect it the next day. Fair enough, next day rolled around and it turns out they did not take a look at it yet. Went back again today and it turns out nobody has even checked on it yet, they didnt even have an estimate ready and used that as the reason for not starting the work on the car. This is the most backwards dealership I have ever visited in my life. Certainly wont be going back.

Mazda 112, Medford, Long Island, NY: NEGATIVE
- Wanted to get a 2008 RX-8 Sport MT on their parking lot, test-driven it and came back a few days later after making appointment but when I got there they told me it was sold and tried to sell me to 2009 model
- Made a deal on the 2009 model and made the downpayment, never told me that they didn't have it in their parking lot until when I got the purchase agreement for my bank and it didn't have VIN number yet
- A week later, Mazda 112 had the VIN but called me to let me know there's additional charge because they had to get the car from upstate and the car had to be driven here

Best Mazda
10475 Southwest Fwy, Houston, TX - (713) 772-6601
Took my car there during lunch time for transmission/clutch problems. First thing they (both service guys) said to me was most likely I abused my car so I should make sure to have at least $800 to cover repairs. How they came to this conclusion from "my transmission makes a whirr noise in nuetral and all gears" I'll never know.
Then the service guy tried to explain to me how rotaries were like volvos that he used to work on.
I left and called Munday Mazda (where I bought my car) and the service tech said its a common occurance and they'll take care of it. It's a drive from where I live now but at least the dealer isn't trying to find an excuse to void my warranty.

+1 negative for Joe Myers, Houston TX. Service Department
- Over priced
- Try to make their "upsell" recommandations come across as requirements
- Directly lied to me stating the bad gas cap problem broke my fuel lines and throttle body which were perfectly fine.
- Actually flooded the engine on my car and forced me to pay to get it fixed. Even at a discounted rate. The flooded engined ruined the brand new spark plugs put in for a recall. Refused to place the plugs after detroying them. Wanted to charge me too much to replace.

Superior Mazda of Bentonville, AR
Service department is complete *****. Tried to tell me the only way a remote could be programmed is by the dealer (mine is an 05 model). Then told me my remote was incorrect model, and tried to sell me $200+ remote they conveniently programmed instead of the brand new one I handed them. I compared the remotes, exact same models. I had to pay $57 for their failed attempt at programming my remote or they would not give me my keys back.
Plugs for Nelson Mazda of Tulsa, where I bought my 8. They fixed my remote issue for free. Too bad I have to drive 100 miles for good service.
Happy and sad this is my first post with RX8club :/
