I don't think it's particularly "heated" (nor is it really a discussion - not in the conventional sense, anyway).
The OP posted up, got his answer and that was that.
The intervening 5 pages over the passed 6 weeks has persisted mainly for my own entertainment.
Though, it is satisfying to me that you are enjoying it!

I know that PayPal won't allow refunds to a different card (yet another reason why I hate PayPal).

Yeah, they should, though I've never processed a refund through them directly before so I'm not an expert on that. Also, since you changed credit cards since you made the purchase, there might be some other complication, though I don't know the policy on that either.

True, however that doesn't make it a mistake
British spelling is still valid although seldom used.
But don't worry about the British, soon you'll all be reading your signs en Español :P

I'm not really sure what you are talking about. Is this about me or Google?
If it is about me, I've got a pretty solid paper-trail on this one.
Not to mention that this is a favor I did for Cobb, not a service I provided to the customer. Cobb offered this guy the refund and then had to clear it through me.
I don't offer refunds.
If this is about Google, I can tell you that they have, so far, been the best transaction administrator that I have dealt with. They really seem to work pretty hard to get to the bottom of stuff and back it up with pretty good documentation.
This whole last transaction was kinda FUBAR. The purchaser bought the unit as a USDM model with a USDM shipping address under a different name and with a credit card that they subsequently canceled.
After they took the unit out of the country and it didn't work on their model (a model that I don't support and don't offer as an option on my site), the customer went straight to Cobb for a resolution. Cobb, apparently, worked with them for a while, offering the possibility of a ROM integration (something that I was told they would no longer offer) but then rescinded that offer and offered a refund.
For the refund to work, the unit had to come back to me first and on to Cobb who then processed it and offered a credit to me that was equal to the purchase price.
Once that was in place, I had to wait for the purchaser to follow the instructions for the refund (pulling teeth to some extent) and then hit "refund" on the Google transaction.
I'm pretty sure that it is going to get even more FUBAR since the purchaser is not named in the transaction and the purchasing CC is no longer valid. The money will probably sit in limbo until Google gets something from the CC issuer to the effect that the card isn't valid, at which time they will probably just kick it back to me.
At that point, I guess I'll have to offer the purchaser a check, but the transaction fees will still be their responsibility as outlined in the purchase agreement.
Honestly, if people would just follow instructions in the first place...

True.
What I have been working on lately is walking away and realizing that not every problem deserves or requires an immediate solution.
Whether the solution is helping or an "f-you", not every "dire" request is actually dire, if it ever is.
Everyone is, in their own mind, a priority of the highest degree.
