The way I did initial setup was to thread the height adjustment on 25 full turns (1 turn = 360 degrees) on the front and rear, and then tighten the spring preload perch by hand so that it's snug, try to get them all about the same tension, just do it by feel.
You're going to need to take measurements and adjust at least one more time so as long as they're all the same for the initial setup you should be fine. Just make sure you thread the height adjustment in at LEAST 20 turns. I started with 25 turns as instructed but that left the rear way too high. Something like almost an inch higher than front. Ended up with 25 front and 35 rear when I was done. |
would i need spacers to run these with stock wheels?

Crazy.8 - No wheel spacers are required to install these coilovers.
Looks like it will be sooner - shooting for production to start early april having these landing late May. So if all goes well, next GB would be in a few weeks. We'll see! Form this next batch we'll be creating an RX8 specific instructional video to help with adjustments and installation. Thank you all for the PM's. Many of you have been very helpful - no single word/suggestion goes unnoticed! Thanks, Matt |
Just installed the front so running on all 4! n i have to say i love them! they are surprisingly comfortable they dont feel overly stiff and bumpy the dampening is amazing a whole lot better than the megan racing coilovers on my s13 thanks tilt! im really glad i jumped on the group buy :) will post pics once i wash my car XD and then again later in the year when i get my wheels put on!

Hey tilt or anyone else who has already installed your coils, the bracket for the rear strut/ shock that has two bolts going in to it is not reused correct? I'm pretty sure you dont reuse because it doesn't really fi and I read something about it a bit ago, t but i just want to make sure. Anyways got them on tonight and the ride was awesome! not overly bumpy but so much less body roll. Will post up pics on tuesday of a befor and after.

I wouldn't recommend running without it if possible I assume it has something to do with lateral "g" support. The three hole mounting base may not be strong enough to support everything under extreme load. |
You guys do know that the four bolts on top of the rear shock bodies loosen up so that bracket moves and you can line it up perfectly and then tighten them down and then install the bracket...
godesshunter, the fitment is pretty much spot on, I think you're just a tad too quick to go grab the big fuckin hammer and pry bars to try and bully the parts into the car... |
yea those brackets are def reused. i got mine to fit no problem

I know I can definatly make it work, I just wasn't sure as I read in some DIY that they were not re used on some aftermarket coilover set ups so I though I''d ask. The bracket doesn't fit perfectly, but its not a problem because like you said if all the bolts are on it will bend a little bit to match up correctly.
|
Many lesser expensive coilovers do not have the top mount portion, this is correct.
For anyone having issues, care to PM me photos? I assisted in 4 installs last time around and there were no serious alignment issues - no bending or anything of that nature required, that's for sure. The *only* thing I can think of is to make sure the brackets were not installed on the wrong sides from the factory (this happens every now and then with Stance). Checking to make sure brackets are all installed properly is just another step that will need to be added to the QC process. Any driving impressions now that these have been installed on many cars? |
I absolutely love the feel of mine. Only issue right now is I have vibration coming from one of the rears in the trunk. But i have to remove both again anyway to lift the rear another half inch, so I will check then.
|
I'm still waiting on mine...sometimes Hawaii sucks...sometimes =P
|
As a reminder & general rule of thumb - double check to make sure everything is tight after driving. The rear inner collar is especially hard to reach and if it comes lose, you might hear a noise coming from there.
edit: Meant to say inner collar on the *rears* is difficult to reach, so should be double checked after some driving. |
The ride is awesome, not much harsher than stock and almost no body roll. I'm extremly impressed with them.
|
:suspect:...Is there a break-in period for the springs?
|
On springs? Never heard of anything of the sort.
Some suggest keeping dampers on soft for the first 50-100 miles but this isn't something really required, and may be a bit of myth. I don't know of any objective info on the subject, so really think it's a null point. |
