(CLOSED) Group Buy: 2-Gauge Pod & 1-DIN Pod
#6
RMagic 1DIN Dash Panel and 2 Gauge Ashtray Pod Group Buy
RMagic 1DIN Dash Panel is 49,613 JPY ($456.75 USD)
RMagic 2 Gauge Ashtry Panel is 31,973 JPY ($294.34 USD) (requires your stock ashtray)
RSW 3 Gauge hood is estimated to be 21,000 JPY ($193.34 USD) for black FRP and 31,500 JPY ($290.00 USD) for CF
The RMagic 1DIN Dash Panel and 2 Gauge Ashtray Pod are made from fiberglass (FRP).
The RMagic 1DIN Dash Panel is available with and without the Bose center speaker cutout. Please specify which you require.
There is a development regarding the RMagic 2 Gauge Ashtray Pod. According to what RMagic has told me, you have to send them your stock ashtray for them to modify and it will take 2-3 weeks. The gauge cutouts are available in 52mm and 60mm. Anyone who wishes to order this will need to either send me their ashtray or purchase a second one to send off to be modified. They will also need to specify the gauge cutout size the would like to have.
The 1DIN Dash Panel weighs roughly 1kg and the 2 Gauge Ashtray Pod unit should weigh under 500g. The 1DIN Dash Panel will take approximately one week, but I am unsure how long it will take to complete a large order for everyone. I'd give them a few weeks. The 2 Gauge Ashtray Pod will take 2-3 weeks according to RMagic.
The RSW 3 Gauge hood is estimated to be 21,000 JPY ($193.34 USD) for black FRP and 31,500 JPY ($290.00 USD) for CF, however, it is currently being redeveloped. According to what RSW told me it should be ready by early July. I will start another thread for this one when the time comes.
Shipping and handling will be via the Japanese Postal System's EMS Express Mail, as it offers tracking.

There will likely be import fees that need to be paid. Using this shipping/mailing method, the US postal system and customs service will handle the paperwork and assessment. They will contact you directly for payment. Find more information at http://www.customs.gov/xp/cgov/impor..._purchases.xml
Regarding payment, the easiest method for me is for everyone to pay via International Postal Money Order in yen. However, I realize that this may be a rather large inconvenience for some people and others may want to use their credit cards but I cannot take them directly. You will have to pay via your PayPal account.
Thank you for your interest in this group buy and thank you for your patience as I try to get this all together.
Best regards,

P.S. More info to come as I finish putting it together...

"The RMagic 1DIN Dash Panel is available with and without the Bose center speaker cutout. Please specify which you require."
Now back to my question.... can anyone verify whether its possible to put an aftermarket reciever in this 1 din dash piece and actually get it to work without screwing up the car?

I'm sure they can, otherwise why would anyone make a 1 DIN dash panel like that and NOT have the stereo working.
I don't think you can make the aftermarket receiver work alongside the controls of the RX-8 though... ex: If you change the volume controls on the RX-8 part, and have the new reciever register it changing the volume.

I am waiting for the Aux in module that has recieved so much attention on this board to have the 1 DIN feed into the standard head unit.
I am planning on putting in a Pioneer AVIC-N1 there and running aux in so I can keep my stearing wheel controls. The only sound that would be coming out of the AVIC-N1 is NAV directions, and MP3 music which sounds like crap anyway so ultimate sound quality through the aux in setup is not a requirement.
Until the Aux in module comes out, buying this piece might not be a great idea unless you are going to bypass the factory unit all together.

If you had, you'd know that they sound just fine - especially in a car where the circumstances for hi-fi sound are far from optimal anyway.
Also, if you think that "sound quality through the aux in setup is not a requirement", then why wait for the AUX-IN module at all? You can use an FM modulator - that should well suffice, now shouldn't it?

I've found that MP3 cds (Blade, Lame, Xing, Fraunhofer encoders at 192 and 256 kbps) sound terribly compressed, especialy when listening to bass heavy music (Drum + Bass, Breakbeat) and the ability to have more music on a disc isn't worth it
As for the the FM modulator, I've always found them kludgy, and would perfer a more elegant solution, but if this Aux in module takes too much longer I may go with it so I can make this happen this year.

Besides... it will actaully cost you in the same neighborhood to have one professionally fabricated, especially if it is a whole panel, and NOT a cut into your stock piece.

To make things simple for all parties involved at various levels, could those who are buying please add themselves to a list in the following format...
#.Screen name- Product(s) desired
I will name a closing date once I feel we have enough people on the list. Once the list is closed I will PM everyone with detailed payment information, etc.

Further payment info.
This is a group buy, NOT my job. As such I want to keep the payment options simple and keep the costs down for everyone. That is why we have the two choices of PayPal and International Money Order. For those who do not know PayPal, it is an online payments system which appears to be expanding into online banking. It can be used for utilities payments, eBay, group buys, etc. A personal account is free... http://www.paypal.com
