[DFW] 2009 Championship RoadRally #5
Over 50 of you took the time to read about the eco-friendly rally, but you just didn't want to enter. I don't blame you for wanting to drive. So our next rally will give you the chance for about three hours of seat time, sharing the adventure with a buddy or significant other.
The DFW Map Rally will start at Subaru of Plano, 4480 W. Plano Pkwy in Plano, west of Coit Road. Registration will open at 9am, with the first car starting at 10:01am. The finish is at Napoli's Pizza & Restaurant in Plano.
This rally also involves a map....one printed specially for us by Mapsco, of the area in Collin and Dallas counties where the rally will take place. You will be given some rules for determining the route to take. You will figure out that route, then drive it. The team that most closely follows the predicted route, and who finds the most clues along the route, will be the winner. See details on the attached flyer.
The entry fee is $30 if you preregister. Go to www.tinyurl.com/DMR9msr to preregister. There will be a $5 late fee for registering on September 5th. There is a $10 discount for SCCA members.

So, how does this event work?
The special map has a set of notable features that are along the (predicted) route, and we must note as many of these landmarks in the shortest amount of time in the correct order?

Not quite. The map is just a copy of four ordinary pages from Mapsco's Street Guide. But we give you rules like, "Never turn on a road whose name starts with a vowel," "Never drive through map square Q," "Turn on a 'BLVD,' then on a 'St'," then turn into a park for a checkpoint. Then you figure out how to make a route from the start to the park while following those rules. THEN we ask you questions like, "What is the name of the second 'No Outlet' street that you pass?" It's answering those questions that gives you your score. It's map-reading plus driving plus problem-solving. Time plays no part in the scoring, as long as you make it to the end by a specified time. We had almost 40 cars enter this event last year.
