32-38000?????? rip-off

i went to my local mazda dealer in beaumont, tx and the saleswoman told me that the average going price for an rx-8 was anywhere from 32,000 to 38,000. has anyone heard anything like this? i asked the lady if they were selling for msrpanytime soon and she looked at me like i was an idiot. but theres no way i would pay 10 grand more for a car. thats rediculous.

This subject has been beaten to death.. Dealers here are hinting the same thing.. It's supply and demand at it's very basic..

Sadly there's nothing we can do, but try another dealer.....it's unscrupulous, yes.. but almost inevitable.

Some have it better off as their area can have many Mazda dealers to choose from.. just think where I'm at, there are only 3.

The great dealers will go at MSRP.. the hungry ones of course will mark up.

From the mouth of a VP

http://rotarynews.com/view.php?id=193

We asked Senior VP of Marketing and Product Development, Robert Davis this question
------------------
Q:: Some of the Mazda dealers here are charging their RX-8 "pre-sale" customers a large premium on top of the MSRP - even though the pre-sale customers put down a deposit on the RX-8, sight unseen, BEFORE the MSRP was announced. I don't feel that this is a fair way to treat the most loyal Mazda customers. What is Mazda's position regarding this practice?
---------------------------

A:: Mazda can't force dealers to sell it at MSRP, but they have advised them to do so. If a dealer is over-charging, the best thing for the customer to do is shop around. The MazdaUSA website will have inventory of the RX-8s up shortly, with the ability to shop in a 150 mile radius.

The dealers have also been advised that the RX-8 is a high production number car. So it would be foolish for them to overcharge when the supply can keep up with demand.

Yup, read that... doesnt do me much good. I've alerted Mazda USA about the possible crazy markups and they say the same thing.. blah blah.. can't dictate pricing with independent dealers.. go shop around.. blah blah...

They seem to forget Hawaii is an island..

But alas.. I do not have the car yet or have paid for one, so maybe there is still hope...

Neal- If I were you I would talk to the sales manager. I am pretty sure that I saw an advertisement for the RX-8 in the Beaumont Enterprise less than a week ago for 28,200. I believe that Kinsel Mazda said that they were taking orders as well. Good Luck
