Allen is not far from Dallas, about 10-15min north. So you're not far away from anything. Good thing about Allen is, is that its very quiet and comfortable to live in.
What type of tracks? 1/4 mile track is down in Ennis and about 45min-1hr away. Theres an 1/8 mile track thats closer.
If you want actual track days. MSR is about 1.5 hours away (South of Ft. Worth). The Auto-Xing places are about 30min to an hour away, depending on which location its being held at.

I can't tell you much about Allen, but it is in the DFW metroplex and I personally love it here. Tons of clubs in Dallas/Addison/Fort Worth and in the cities within DFW, Texas Motor Speedway and a few other tracks too. I'd say take the opportunity.

Yeah Dallas is a beautiful city. I live in the mid-cities (grapevine) and I think it's one of the best areas. My ex-roommate lived in allen and like BOL said it's very quiet and comfortable.
Kennedale is the 1/8th mile drag strip, Ennis is the Motorplex, which is the 1/4 mile dragstrip. Texas Motor Speedway sometimes has events on the weekend where you can race on the track and in the internal parking lot (where all the RV's go during NASCAR) with cones.
I lived in chicago for 15 years, houston for 2, and dallas for 9. My sister lives in austin, and while austin is an awesome *college* city, I'm not sure I'd want to live there permanently. Dallas/Ft. Worth IMO is the best.
Dallas is great for the more traditional clubs, addison is nice for the "upscale/older" crowd, and Ft. Worth is nice for a slower, less populated night out. I tend to prefer Addison / Ft. Worth because it's a slightly more laid back night life.
Dallas - Younger crowd, tattoo parlors, bars, more techno/hip-hop clubs.
Addison - Piano Bars, Improv, BJ's brewery, Duke's
Ft. Worth - 8.0's (best club imo), the library (great place for a sports night out). If you're looking for more country, there's cadillacs and of course billy bobs.
Denton - UNT college campus (I graduated from there), has "Fry Street" where it's bar after bar after bar. Not really crowded and isn't very far from allen. Fun place to visit is Side Bar. Mr. Chopsticks is an *awesome* place for chinese there.
I'll live in dallas as long as I possibly can.
Hope this helps!

I live in Allen, it is nice, there are still some new developments with new houses being built which means lots of rental property available as people move into the new ones. I have been there since '90 and the town has changed alot but only for the better. One good part is that it's landlocked so it will only get so big. They have done a good job of keeping the roads up with the growth. The schools are some of the best in the area. Lots of regular retail within close distance, home depot, etc.
