almost a "oh crap" day
Girlfriend is taking me to san antonio this past labor day weekend for my birthday.
Room on the riverwalk for sunday night. so we decide to take the Rx-8. I have mostly backroads mapped out that i have taken on my bike many times from cypress to SA. Tires are about done, figured after this trip would replace at least the rears.
So we are RIPPING up some corners out thru fayettville, smithville, etc. almost zero traffic so we hit tripple digits several times. hauling butt the whole way. There are some GREAT twisties out there. We get to new braunfels and i am feeling a little vibration from the rear. Now it's sunday of labor day weekend, noonish.
I get out and look under the rear, and the left rear tire inside is showing cords, "oh crap"
i start calling tire shops all over and all are closed. Double "oh crap"
Girlfriend wants to site see in new braunfels and i tell her that if that tire goes we be riding in a wrecker. So we decide to limp to san antonio and hope for the best.
tire never looses air but i am sweating the whole way to SA
Monday morning i ask the hotel people to call around for a open tire shop, (labor day) Damned if there wasn't a tire place open that had 2 dunlops left. After all said and done they were $225 a piece with roadhazzard, installed etc.
Anyhow that was my labor day wekend and thought i would share about how some really good twisties can eat up some tires.
later all and stay safe
