well my socket set is kinda on the cheap side and i dont want to mess up the bolts on the manifold. Why i am tempted to take it back home with a garage to work in. plus the ratchet is short.

dont think the install requires anything fancy

Hey man, I'm pretty confident we can either gangbang it at the shop or have them help you for a reasonable price, there are no shops in town that are going to charge you a fair price so let me throw that warning out there, you could attempt John Long (formerly of John and Corky's) but it will cost you lotsa $$$ (along with mzm or ptp for that matter) I would say money wise your best bet will probably be to go through the shop and have some of us help as well, the shop has more than adequate tools and space, Les is actually a former mechanic (still does side jobs actually lol) and Adrian has experience with a boosted dsm and other cars etc., if the kit is mostly bolt on with minor modding or whatever I'm pretty sure we can tackle it no problem, and we definitely wouldn't risk anything or do anything to jeopardize your car obviously, the only thing we can't do at the shop is dyno-tune, so we'd probably have to set it up with a real conservative setup until you could take it to somewhere like Boost Logic etc for a tune if need be. Your other option would be to try shops outside of Austin, but again, that's probably going to be pretty pricey going that route.

I think Im definitely gonna take you up on this offer. I just want you guys to know that Im not trying to get this done for free! lol!! Its just I have been looking for a used turbo that usually in the $1800 range and that way I had plenty of install money and tuning money. Well this is the whole greddy kit with the Mazdamaniac upgrade, so thats why its a little more money than I was planning. Im gonna order a Cobb from MM and ask for a generic safe tune that will suffice until I can get some dyno money together. After I talk to Les about a price, Ill prolly order it and get this all under way!!!

Ya as long as we agree on a price and the kit is still available. If this kit does sell or something, Ill prolly get the next used kit that goes on sale and have BNR rebuild the turbo to flow higher

Feel your pain......FYI:
According to local Mazda service mgrs. @ Premier & North, failure of the auto4spd/190hp is common; it is an "engineering mistake". Berny Schiff has had the same failures & he is very gentle w/his. Only the very latest replacements of same w/the new chip "allegedly" is the cure, BUT no history exists for them. So you may/may not get more than 20K past your warranty. Note: Mazda flushed the 4spd/190 for the auto6spd/235 w/no probs. & no probs.w/std models. So it's not new or old, model or owner, but the recurring failure of the discontinued early auto4spd. built-in design error.

ANOTHER OPTION for a "recurring (3rd engine) manufacturer's defect" is to check the Texas LEMON LAW for current relief; dealers used to have brochures, or go on line.
In the past, a buyer could have the dealer take the defective model back for 1.) a refund of retail value, 2.) current retail applied against a new model of choice, or 3.) current retail against a pre-owned model of choice.

In short, if the LAW still allows, you may be able to:
*Turn in your lemon (less mods removed & sold) for it's current retail cash value.
*Apply retail value or $ refund against another new std.RX8 (mods reinstalled) w/payments.
*OR apply $ refund against a new or clean preowned **whatever/wherever** you want (lose some mods if not an RX8).
*You should be able to do this when the new motor is done; dealer gets a new engine/running car for trade or refund @Mazda's warranty expense; win-win.
*The service history is proof of recurring problems in your car; no contest if the law is current.

Since you like a yellow RX8, what about shopping for a used 6-spd.std. BLACK (few problems) black (keep it for the engine bay) & later paint it yellow instead of payments on a new trade. We both know good painters. Save all your mod$ for re-install. Prices are down & deals abound.

LS ENGINE CONVERSIONS:
*HinsonSuperCars.com* does LS conversions, $12-18K & up. Ted Schenk will have his '94 RX7 back very soon; new silver paint, big LS2 EFI (same weight as turbo 1.3 w/all the add-ons; still 50/50 wt.distribution), HD trans/drive train, tires, wheels, brakes, 450+hp & ..........35mpg hwy cruising !! All the best, none of the probs. RX8 conversions coming soon.

LD.

Well after seeing this turbo being available for about a month, when I finally came to the decision to buy it, it finally sells! WTF!!! Oh well, if any of you find a good deal, send it my way! I finally talked myself into 100% doing this now that Randall gave me some hope about getting it done at the shop, so Ill let you all know when I get one and maybe we can setup a learning day or something.

It's all good Adam, just means it wasn't meant for your ride and something better will come along soon, these cars have been out a while now and people are moving on to different cars etc so I see kits popping up all the time.

Black's a nice color and all but it's insanely hard to keep looking clean, and with all the shows I do it would put people to sleep compared to the yellow. The way I see it, I'm basically getting a new car, all the little problems I had leading up to this will be fixed by replacing the engine, so with it being paid for soon I can't see a reason to get rid of it. The irresponsible side of me has been new car shopping all week, pricing Lancer's and 135's, and 370z's and Genesis Coupes and used Porsche's and so on and so on, heck, I even priced an R8 and a few other megabuck supercars just for the fun of it, but in all reality it would be a mistake at this point to sell/trade the "canary". I'd be stuck with having to buy a new set of wheels, lowering the new ride, putting another stereo in it, possibly getting another bodykit and so on and so on, I'd be spending a ton to get back to where I was, and I'd be faced with 5-6 years of more payments. My current ride is sponsored, has 1k of Metra/Tsunami wiring waiting to go in it, and a one of a kind amazing stereo, and I just can't throw all of that away, maybe next year or another 2 years, but not any time soon. My future plan is pay off the car and buy a daily, a nice little truck/something I can slam the **** out of and drive every day, I've got a line on an older S10 so I'm hoping I can snag it somehow. I'd also like to use that extra bump in income to sqaush my debt and get a house, I had a really shitty thing happen to me in 04 that left me practically bankrupt, so paying off the car and getting a home later is super huge to me personally.

Ya, thats kinda what Im hoping. Im hoping another MM kits comes up but we'll just have to wait and see. Like I said, my biggest hang up was installing it, and since you have someone that knows what they are doing, I basically gave myself the thumbs up!

I heard that. I was thinking about using my money to pay off a credit card but it aint that high so I might as well get a turbo. Plus we are getting wedding money so that will be our house down payment!!!

On another note, that 183/360 Gateway meet is frickin' huge, but LOADED with idiots and street racers, I'm pretty sure we saw the entire HIN show and crowd all in one spot for free Saturday night There were some nice cars out though, and it was pretty interesting and a pretty diverse crowd.

So far so good man! Been working on getting a good deal from BNR and RX8Store to get a new Greddy kit with their upgraded turbo. They said they would do a price break if I bought both so Im just waiting for a price. Hope this works! Hows your week man?

lol at street racing, I would never run those guys down there at that meet, they're all sporting little maxed out Honda's w/o 1 metric ton of stereo in the trunk, I'd be embarassed every run, plus it's just stupid doing that on public roads anyway, there are no "empty roads" in that vicinity so my guess is they're all going down 183 and going from a roll, which is a terrific way to get either killed or busted, or worse, injure some innocent bystander just driving home from work etc. It was a fun place to hang, but I can see it getting shut down and moved elsewhere before the end of the year, lotta people doing stupid **** in the parking lot out there, hell, one of the guys almost hit me leaving in awhite jetta, one other time someone who parked behind my rentabeast, came REALLY close to hitting it, it's probably a good thing my car wasn't out last Saturday or I might be typing this from my phone in a jail cell

I thought that guy who got the kit looked familiar, I think he's been out to a few TexasRxs meetings and he went with us to Plucker's that one day too, nice guy, his car should be pretty quick when he gets done.

That should be me having the pretty quick car!! Lol!!! Oh well, Im still looking for another kit. Looking at one now but its got a little more miles than I would like it to have, plus I would be a 3rd owner. Not sure I like that.
