Interested, but I don't know anything about flushing fluids. I would like to get my tranny done. Does anyone have experience with that because from what I have read that seems to be a common theme.

I want some potenza's though.
Track tires are a totally different deal altogether, and by cheap I mean cheaper than kumho cheap, Kumho's are actually pretty nice, I opted for the bfg's only because I love the tread pattern and I used to run comp t/a's and loved them so I knew what I was getting with the kdw's etc. I would have gone with the Kumho's if I didin't already know what to expect etc.
I think these things were like 400a too, the funny thing is they were called "triangles" rofl

here they are http://www.dynamictire.com/tire-hipr...lon_tr968.html

by all means stay away from them, they were marginal at best in the dry, any time it rained I felt like I was driving on those plastic tricycle/bigwheel wheels. Today during lunch on the way back to work I noticed I now have next to no understeer, and I definitely got the sizing right as now my wheelwells are nice and full. Can't wait to see what happens when it rains, no more sliding through intersections for me

Yeah, well these Kuhmo's are the all season W rated 420 UU. They are O.K dry but for them being all-season they suck in the rain. It's like ice-skating... I am all over the road. I have come the conclusion though in the rain is in the rain... a little bit better would be ok if it means the thing would stick on the ground better when it was dry.

The Potenza RE05 I think would be nice, but people say rain traction is horrible.

http://www.wheelsforless.com/nitto_tires.htm

The Nitto NT 555 would be nice.... anyone have $500 bucks I could borrow, I can pay the rest... lol

<---- base model with sport suspension. (no traction control)

I did a freaking 360 on lamar right before you get towards 35th that big curve.... scared the schnikies out of me. I was really suprised though how well the 8 recovered... I was turning left through a curve and my back tires gave out and I just kept going left until I was facing the same direction. I had like a line of 3 cars waiting on me to go cuz I was kinda in shock after I got it stopped. I think I almost stayed in my lane too.

A few days after the ice storm I was making a gentle sweeping left on a road that had been sanded but had been "cleared" (sand residue?)...nothing fast...maybe 20mph or so...all of a sudden mid turn I noticed that the car had stopped making the turn and was sliding ever so gracefully into a guardrail...I was all like...SON OF A! and right then...the blinking DSC light and slippery tires light start...next thing you know the car stopped sliding and I swear to god pointed itself in the direction the front tires were pointed...

I was all like...holy crap...that was awesome...

It was on that day that I learned to rely on the car's reflexes...apparently the RX did NOT want to taste guardrail either...

So are we confirmed for 03/11/07 at 10AM? Does anyone have a fluid pump for filling the rear diff? I too think we should buy bulk.

It looks like we are a go for 10am on the 11th. I might show up a little later though, since I live in SA and don't really need to do anything.

I am not set on actually doing anything. I would rather use my skills to help someone else if needed. What time you gonna leave?

Bulk Buying is always good.

If we have 4 people who need a filter or want to change thier engine oil...I can buy the 4-pack of Nippon Oil Filters and just charge you cost. Else let me know what you would like to do.

I'm also willing to source/bring the oil as long as someone else can ensure proper disposal.

I was going to use Royal Purple which has both good results AND simplifies purchasing the oil as you can use RP Max-Gear 75W90 in BOTH tranny and diff. We will need approx 4 qts per car (avg 3.4) to do the tranny and diff. I found a deal online where we can purchase each qt for approx $9.00 w/ free shipping. Considering that right now it looks like we have at least 4 people whom are interested, we will need approximately 15 qts. We are working on the honor system here so please keep that in mind. Please report who will need me to purchase the oil for sure. And cash or check will be expected day of. PM/POST Please to verify your order.

I was also going to purchase a flotool PN#10106 to pump in the new oil to make everyones lives easier. This can obviously be shared.

Its recommended to replace the crush washers so again if I know how many people will need them, I can purchase the required amount ahead of time. We will need 4 (2 for diff, 2 for tranny) per car. Is this optional? Does anyone care?

As far as engine oil I was thinking of purchasing a case of Idemitsu oil but I dont know how well it would work if you had to add castrol in the future...so I am still open to what type of oil if anyone would like to also get this changed.

DETAILS:

Anyone have a set of ramps? I'll bring two sets of jackstands...

We will also need a container to transport the used fluids.

TOOLS:

Oil Filter "F" type cap wrench
Torque Wrench
19mm socket
23mm socket
24mm socket

PARTS:

Engine Filter: Nippon?

Engine Oil: Royal Purple 5W20
Trans/Diff Oil: Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W90

RX-8 torque specs:

1. transmission filler/drain bolts 27-48 N-m
2. differential filler/drain bolts 39.2-53.9 N-m
3. engine drain bolts 30 N-m

Part numbers for crush washers:

1. transmission drain plug: Y601-17-361
2. differential drain plug: 9956-41-800
3. oil drain plug: 9956-41-400

******************

I'll hold off the final order until Tuesday March 6th 12pm CST in order to ensure delivery. I will recheck this forum one last time PRIOR to making an order.

Please again repost if you want me to purchase the oil for you...for verification that you DO want it and are expecting to reimburse day of. I will UPDATE the same post based on your PM's or POSTS...after the deadline what you see in this post will be what was ordered.

PENDING ORDERS:

Royal Purple Max-Gear 75W90: (CURRENT QTY: 8 QUARTS)

1) EvilTwinkie - CONFIRMED
2) SOVINE - CONFIRMED
3) Wrecked8 - NOT CONFIRMED
4) 9krpmrx8 - NOT CONFIRMED

Royal Purple 5W20: (CURRENT QTY: 10 QUARTS)

sweet deal, I might have time this week to check around with some of the local auto parts/oil change places and see where we can pawn off the used fluids, if I find out anything I'll post it.

Ummm.. if you were talking to me.. I was probably going to leave San Antonio around 10:30-11:00.

I have a set of ramps I could possibly bring, but they are kinda high, at least I think they are. I don't think the 8 would fit unless the front bumper is taken off.. But honestly I don't know, cause I never use them. They are old school ramps from the 80's, remember the ones that are like a two-piece.

Also, what kind of container are you talking about? Because if need be, I drink like a gallon of water a day, so I have like 10 empty gallon jugs I could bring to contain whatever fluids.

Hey guys, I don't need any fluids or fliters. I end up buying bulk of everything i usually use since I run track days once a month oil lasts me a whole 1000 miles before it looks like ****.

I typically run ...
5w20 Royal Purple
Syncroshift in the trans
75w90 Gear oil in the diff
Mazda factory oil filter

Funny part is I'm completely out of oil for both the motor and trans but I have a ton of oil filters left (buy them in packs of 16 from Rosenthal). I have engine oil on order so I'll be getting a box of Royal Purple 5w20 sometime this week. You guys are free to use some if you like (and if it gets here in time ... if it doesn't I'll be trolling Pepboys all over town for it).

I'd be interested in a filter from you. Let me know how much you want to let one go for.

I found that RP 5W20 oil sells for $6/qt from the same place that has RP 75W90 for $9/qt.

I'll order a few quarts for myself...if anyone else would like for me to purchase additional qts let me know.

Avenger can I assume that you can take care of your own oils and therefore remove you from the list?

Cheers!

Come on down Raptor! This sounds like it'll be a good group getting together.

Twinkie, yeah I should be good for fluids. I'll just be doing the engine oil. $5 for the oil filter. I'll bring what I have left over (6) in case anyone else wants one.
