I'll try again.

Mazda South in Austin. You will not be treated better anywhere than these guys, they will take great care of you.

Ask for Mike Moran (Inventory Manager), and make sure to meet DJ (Service Manager) and Doug (Rotorhead and Mazda Master Mechanic).

I would check Edmunds.com - You can build the car your looking for and find the invoice price. You can also ask for price quotes from internet managers at dealers who will hopefully have something similar.

I'll add that all the Mazda dealers in the Austin area (including Bastrop) are owned by Roger Beasley. I started at the Northern store, Premier Mazda of Georgetown (in reality its located just north of RoundRock (exit 257? on I-35)). When they couldn't find the car I wanted fast enough (nothing against them, I was just faster and didn't want to wait a day), I found it at Mazda South. I'll second the opinion from above, good people to deal with. I did have one problem with the shop...they damaged the paint on the front-end when I took it in for a CEL (known issue...needed a PCM flash update). To be fair, the service writer bent over backwards to make it right...paying for a touch-up guy to pick up my car at work and take it to have the damage taped off and repainted. 100% perfect paint match and a great job (guy missed a maybe 1/8" scuff with the buffer, but you'd really have to look to find it).
When I bought mine (5/3/04), they were offering $2000 off sticker without any hassle. I bought mine on the S-plan (supplier discount) and they quoted what I was expecting. I dealt with Jim Hawthorne.

I found that the Mazda web page's search was accurate, at least when I was looking for an 8. I second the idea of querying Internet managers. I bought my wife's Honda Pilot that way...got a good deal with no hassle. Went straight to the best deal dealer, test drove it and signed the paperwork. Makes shopping all over Central Texas a reality. The only hiccup is if you have a trade...the best thing to do is to get an appraisal from a local dealer and figure that you'll get +250/- 500 from that anyplace you go.

Talk to David Preston at Classic Mazda in Denton, if you're willing to drive that far. Very low-pressure and customer service oriented. I had a very good buying experience.

It doesnt matter where you live. or what dealer ship you go to. if you know how to sell get it done.. i.e. if you know how to sell, you know how to turn the tables on the seller. All you have to do. is pin 2 mazda dealers against eachother. dirve them for the best price. HERE ARE THE SIMPLE AND EASY STEPS IN GETTING ANYTHING... 1) go into mazda dealer .. IF YOU CAN @ THE END OF THE MONTH WHEN SALESMEN ARE WILLING TO TAKE A COMISSION HIT TO MAKE A SALE TO HIT NUMBERS....#1. talk w/ them, get them excited about a sale. you must let them know you will sign today if you see the price you want. see what the best possible price is they can do for the rx8 package you want.. tell them you will not buy a near 30,000 car without atleast having it for a day. they 99% of the time will let you take it home. drive the free rx8 for a day. rip the **** out of it. see what it can do. they give you the standard demo rx8. which everyone test drives when they want to buy a car......

day#2. go into mazda dealer #2.. ask for the best possible price for everything you want. play the same game as you did on mazda dealer #1.... make them seem like their the only dealer your interested in. see what the best price is.... if it is higher. tell them what the other dealer can do ( but say a bit lower # then what they told you )... get them to undercut a even lower price then what dealer # 1 gave you..... then you go back to dealer # 1... drop off the car you got the day before.... let them know you being a smart shopper contacted dealer#2. and got this price. say a bit lower "again" then what they told you to try to get #1 to undercut #2 this time... you can do this as many times as needed.. or as you can pull off.... a lil bit of time, haggling, and sampling of dealerships can save you more money then imagined!!! i did it. i know how to do it. and you can usually get free rx8's for the day too... ( ALWAYS HAVE THEM FILL UP THE TANK BEFORE YOU LEAVE ).... ITS free gas, and alot of gas to play with and drive the hell out of. and you get to really see what the rx8 can do. by yourself. without having to worry about tearing your rx8 up... because its not yours.. and the one you end up buying will never be the demo unit.. so dont worry about it. its what their for... TO DEMO!!..

easy does it..
