I found a dealer with a car that met all my specifications, but had god-awful wheels. I made an offer on the car that they rejected and we walked off the lot. They called and said they happened to have an '08 RX8 in stock and wanted to know if I was interested if the swapped the wheels out.
I signed all the paperwork and was supposed to pick it up yesterday, but it turns out the wheels are 16" from an automatic and won't fit. I told the dealer to knock $1600 off the price and I'd take the car and find my own wheels, but they weren't too keen on that. They offered to sell me some new wheels for $600, but I didn't like what they were describing. Supposedly right now they're calling past RX8 owners to see if they'd be willing to buy new wheels with the purpose of buying their old stock wheels and put them on "my" RX8.
I don't think that deal will go through, so I'll get back to shopping and make an offer on one of the other RX8s I was looking at. But I'd be surprised if I have a car before the meet Friday.

That stinks. Well, 8 or no 8, you're welcome to join us.

It's just the process you have to subject yourself to if you want to find the best car possible for the least amount of dollars. I'm not too worried, but I am going to be disappointed if I can't bring a car to show off

I'll be there, and with an RX-8. I wound up telling that dealer "Thanks, but no thanks" and buying an '04 RX-8 with about 60k miles on it for $3k cheaper than I would have spent at the dealership.
This guy needs to get to the garage, there's something funky about the brakes or steering but nothing serious. It's certainly road-worthy and I'll bring to the meet, just pardon any brief grinding or other embarrassing noises she might make.
She goes to the garage on Saturday so that she's all fixed up and pretty for me when I get back into town from business.
