"Dealer Services" fees in Texas?

I just moved to Austin less then 2 weeks ago and placed an order for an RX8 with Mazda North 2 days after I got here. I was just reviewing my order sheet tonight and there is a $199 charge for "Delaer Services". Is this something that's normal in Texas? Possibly a charge for preping the car? If so, I thought that they would just take that out of the difference between MSRP and invoice. Any info would be appreciated.

Don't pay it.

My original order had the same "fee" (listed as "Additional Dealer Services"), but I was told up front that it could be removed at the time of sale. The final contract had no such "fee" - and I bought my car in Austin as well.

Me too. We were told that the Beasley group policy is to put it on every order, but it can be removed at time of actual purchase. If you do pay it, it gets you a book of vouchers for discounts on routine services, etc, at the dealership (which are worth well in excess of $199 if you were to use them all).

I caught the same thing when I was actually writing the check. It hadn't been explained to me before and they claimed it was the tire for life policy, but I had them remove it and that was that. I'd make sure to ask them what every charge means in detail before you hand over a check.
