Dealership question

I live in Dayton, Texas, its about 40 miles to the northeast of Houston. Its about time for me to get a transmission flush and I was curious if anyone knows of a reputable dealer I can go to in the area? There is a dealership in Humble, which is about 30 miles to the west, I drive by sometimes and it looks nice, but don't know much about it.

Suggestions?

MT and i've read up on the types I need, apparently 2 quarts for the LSD n 2 for the tranny. Although I've been getting mixed opinions on the so called "REDLINE" stuff. Some ppl say its good, others disagree. I wonder what the dealer uses. So I'm just curious if anyone knows of any good dealers in the area I can go to.

suggestions?

PS: my zip code is 77535 if that helps, i live in hillbilly capital of the world

If I were you I would do it myself. If you are not feeling that adventurous then take it to a local mechanic, the dealership will over charge you. You might want to get some crush washers from the dealership before you take it to your mechanic though (for all 4 of them it will cost you less than $5).

You will be amazed by the difference of synthetic over conventional gear oil. Any synthetic like redline, royal purple, or Idemitsu (what I personally use) will result in smother shifting and better performance.

I use Redline and am very satisfied with the smoothness of shifting.

You really can do this yourself. Check out the very good DIY here. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ansmission+DIY

Also do the differential when you do the transmission.

Or do bring the oil to a local mechanic so you're sure you get what you want.

edit: here's a great site for 'visual learners': http://www.5cats.org/rx8/trans_diff_refill/

Go to jiffy lube or something.

Seriously changing the fluid is like changing oil. The hardest part is getting creative on getting to the fill hole on the transmission.

I have used royal purple max gear 70-90 and the 80-140 or whatever it was, redline 75-140NS, and OEM.

I would advise against using royal purple. I'm back to OEM because my transmission was recently rebuilt 3 times in a row, but I think I'm going to mix redline and OEM fluids next time.

The redline seems to be easier on the syncros but the gears are louder.

OEM seems to quiet the gears and is about in the middle for performance.

Royal Purple seems to quiet the gears but harsh on the syncros. Also I had royal purple max gear in the transmission for about 20,000 miles and my bearings went out.

These are just my observations during normal driving and autocross use. You might not need the heavier 75-140NS if you go with redline. You can get the step down, just make sure it has NS at the end of it.
