This is a cruise to enjoy something else than the everyday traffic of the DFW area. Get lost in the road and find out what ‘Zoom Zoom’ is all about.

I am still planning on running this route. We’ll start off with lunch and make an afternoon of it. If you think about it, 77 miles at an average speed of 50 mph (some city stop lights, some farm roads) we can probably do it in less than 2 hrs.

Still game man. Think we should try to stick with a bit a routine to keeps things simple, meet somewhere at noon for food close to the drive and then just go drive...

Thats my vote anyway.

Scott I do think it's ironic that you made the comment about how 70 miles was kinda long for a cruise on Jew's post, lol. In your defense, though, I've run this route before (in parts, not all at once) and a bonus is that there are PLENTY of areas to branch off and head out if someone doesn't wanna make the entire trip. You'll hit 121 and 75 at nicely spaced intervals, so those are good places for anyone to bail should they need/want to.

Good job on the planning, btw, your comments alone renew my love for the car-strategic placement of "handling" and "zoom zoom" tends to have that effect.

Since when do I turn stuff dirty?

I just merely point out the dirty stuff you say (and carry in your purse).

ok, you called me out. The last cruise was a lot of fun and 70 miles isn't as far as it sounds.

Meeting between dallas and tarrant would be nice.. But I am biased. I may be overthinking, but since it's a Sunday.. Maybe move it a bit later? Like 2-3pm start time. Less traffic perhaps.. But then I don't ever go to these 'greater dallas' areas you speak of.

We all start there. Well.. most of us. It's nice to hang out with everyone and nerd out (if thats a correct term) about the cars. You'll notice the people that have been around a year or more somehow have very similiar mods... How many of us ride on tein S techs now??

id like to eat around 12 or 1 if that would be ok!!! and btw i dont think i need help with my tires, the whole deal is im trying to get new springs&shocks + tires before the 15th, and if it happens i believe ill just have mazda or discount tire install and make sure their weighted correctly, my dad works for honda so he can get anything at virtually cost including tires so hes gonna help me out with the price which is good!!!. im buying brians tein s. techs and paying for half of koni yellows, my parents buy the rest... BUT the problem is im almost postitive if i get tires i wont get the shocks... thats why im pushing for shocks and springs first then for tires because my tires are bald...

while im on the topic of tires i want the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec's but the problem with those is they dont make them in the tirerack recommended tire for the stock 05' base automatic 8, the base 05' auto rides on 16's and they recommended a tire size of 225/55-16, which btw is the same size tire on my car right now... Granted id like to get those Z1 star specs BUT the closest size they make is a 225/50-16, do you think it would be ok to go with that? if not ill just get the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport's in 225/55-16

EDIT: also if anyone knows the width of the stock 16's that would be so helpful, as people are saying if i go with the 225/50-16 Z1's over the OE tire size of 225/55-16 my speedometer will be off by 3.4% which is too high for comfort, does anyone know of a way to recalibrate the speedo? thanks

I was under the impression that the width of the tire is irrelevant to speedometer readings...thought just the size/diameter of the tire could effect that, right? Someone fill me in if I'm incorrect, I'm very curious!

Scott,
Since this is Sunday you gotta think about the non heathen crowd.... aka the church goers. If you schedule it at noon I will not be able to make it, as I cant leave the keller area until 1pm at the latest. Not trying to move it on account of me but I am sure there must be one or two others here that go to church...

Interesting.... There is some tire calculator out there that will show you negative or postive results from different tire sizes, but I don't know how width comes into play other than it is more contact. I had to look at a lot of crap first though...

Yeah, that's true. I guess it will give me ideas about what to do next with the car. Maybe I can say I'm not completely stock because I got a new engine because of flood damage.

Update 2/4

Ok so here is the plan so far...

We will be meeting up somewhere around 75 and 190 (P. George Bush Turnpike) at 1:00 to meet up and grab a bite to eat somewhere around the area (open to suggestions). This is where the cruise essentially starts so we will do the usual meet and greet and have some lunch. This way, those who want a later start or those coming from further areas can have some time to get there at their leisure if they don't want lunch but still want to cruise. We will probably depart from lunch between 2:00-2:30 or as soon as everyone expected is there and lunch is finished.

You are correct, except I think you're looking at the wrong numbers.

He's going from a 225/50R16 to a 225/55R16. It's that 50-55 switch that causes the problems. The 225 is the width of the tread/tire. The 50 (or 55) is the height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width. So he's going from a tire that is 50% of the width (112.5 mm) tall sidewall to one that is 55% (123.75 mm). So you're actually adding 22.5 mm in height to the size of the tire.

So yes, your speedometer will change. This is just a guess, but I think you can "reprogram" the ECU for the new tire size and you'll be fine. Of course, you'd have to talk to someone who's done some tuning, but I'd be that's how you could recalibrate the speedometer.

Makes perfect sense, can't believe I didn't figure that one out...and WTBRotary!, if you need someone with tuning info, SpeedyGuy_00 (Brian) is my recommendation.

In order to make Creto proud while offering suggestions on where to end the cruise...there's a Sonic, a Subway, and a Church's Chicken in Celina...but I think POUNDERS BURGER BAR.

I'm sorry, I had to.

For places to begin, there's a ton of restaurants right there. We could stick wtih BJ's if we wanna go familiar. But there's also a Sonic, Potbelly's, Boston Market...anything else you can think of.

OR if we wanna "pre-game" we can go to Amazin' Jake's in the Collin Creek Mall. It has a go-cart course on the second floor, it's like an adult Chuck E. Cheese. Lol, but I designed the second floor under the go-cart track so...could be risky...or exciting...you know what, nevermind, bad idea.
