As I advertise with my service tag that I refuse to take off of my mirror, of course!

Hey, MATT is always up there, at least I just swing by to watch and learn and keep you company. Except for the oil filter I couldn't get off, seriously...I don't use you. Or maybe I just have a selective memory, I dunno...

Anyone around Plano familiar with taking apart the taillights? I noticed my right taillight is collecting water now I called Town North Mazda in Richardson and they wanted $100 per light to fix it It's not too bad right now but I'd like to try and fix it before it gets worse. I know the problem is probably that the gasket needs to be replaced. Does anyone know if it's possible to fix it as is or do I need to buy the new gaskets? Thanks!

^It is easy thing to do. Just remove a little of the carpet lining and then you can remove about 2-3 bolts and disconnect the three lights. I had mine replaced under warranty a long time ago, then at the beginning of the year it happened again. I just pulled it off dried it out and made sure the gasket was sealing in the right area and tightened that thing down. It's just a bad design for the run off from the trunk.

Yeah, it's surprisingly simple. I've taken mine apart twice and I have some gasket/sealer crap if you need help...but I doubt you will.

TX Had 2005 rx8 for 2 weeks and her insides are done!

Alright so I bought my Rx8 used back in Februrary and already had it in the shop twice. Once after the first 24 hours I had it a check engine light came on. O2 sensor, so I'm thinking no big deal I get that. About 2 weeks later I am coming down hwy 360 and guess what, another check engine light. Take it to the dealership and tell them to check it out, and had some other small issues they needed to fix while under warranty, about a week later they finally call me and from what I have read on here its the norm, they say "Umm sir, we have ordered you a new engine and btw we need to replace the clutch." The car has 30k miles on it. I'm thinking I might need to let the old rx8 go and get some american muscle, or is the new engine and clutch going to hold up. I mean whats next the damn tranny going to be dragging down the hwy next?

oh and how long before i get my car back? I mean im going in on the 3rd week now, and the engine has still not been sent to the dealership. Don't get me wrong this sweet *** get-r-done gold mazda 3 is making me love life, but if i wanted a cheap *** car, i would have bought one of these or a kia.

my 8 has 70k on it and I have had no problems.........

At least you are getting a new motor, I wish mine would have a problem so that I could get a new motor and not have 70k anymore.

Hmm well must just be the last owner doing donuts and figure 8 all day long..lol You still got a good 30k to go. Its funny that people are wishing the engine would die.

read carefully this forum, much wealth is within it.

1st, do you have auto/manual

how was the previous driver's maintenance habit?

what was the previous driver's driving style, baby the car = dead motor, drive too rough = dead tranny.

wat is the "small things" done yo your car. and if yours is automatic, then yes, 2005 rx8 needs an engine switch, they are giving you a better designed engines that the later autos got.

Hate to correct you bro but if you get a new engine in ANY 04 or 05' auto your stuck with a remanufactured 4-port, not a 6-port...

its a 6 speed manual. not sure of the previous owners driving habits, but the carfax report didn't show any wrecks and it had only been in service one time. when i drove it i tried never to shift until i hit 5k rpms at the very least after it was warmed up. hey anyone know if vavoline 5w 20 is a good choice wheni get her back? I havent seen anyone talk about using that brand of oil. Hear a lot of people use castrol. Have always used vavoline and has always been good to me, but apperantly this isnt your normal car..lol
