Go Spurs!

go referee's....gotta love game 4 and that foul they didn't call on barri....after that I quit watching the series as I knew it was only a matter of time, pro sports just isn't fun to watch anymore. I liked it better back in the day before everything had a company name slapped on it and it was more about the game and not about the $$$, just my .05 cents

The NBA clearly did not want the spurs in the finals. They scheduled playoff games every other night, even when a new series begins. The spurs area an older team, they can run for a while but when they only have 1 day rest, what do you think is going to happen in the second half. The NBA wanted the Lakers and the Celtics. The referees made some questionable calls to say the least. The lakers are a very good team but it would have gone to 7 games or the spurs would have won if the NBA scheduled games the way they had every previous year and the referees were consistant. But at the end of the day, you have to win the game, the lakers won and the spurs are going home. Congradualtions lakers

Game 4 shouldn't of been that close to begin with. Duncan's blatant travel in the first quarter dunk, Fisher's shot that didn't reset the clock, Odom's goal-tend which should of been a clean block.
Not sure where the $$$ comes in...if anything, everything back in the day was about the $$$ as well.

When I was growing up as a little kid, the cotton bowl was the cotton bowl, and all the rest of the bowl games (Rose, Orange, etc etc) didn't have a name in front of them. If it was about the $$$ back then too (which I don't think it was as much as today) then they did a MUCH better job of keeping it out of my face and my experience with whatever game I happen to be watching.....and I miss that.
Game 4 was awful, don't even try and make it sound like it shouldn't have been that close, there was just as much foul crap on the Laker's side as the Spurs but whatever, not like it matters anyway

Interesting how Jerry West is a Laker legend who went to the Memphis Grizzlies front office.........then just happened to send Pau Gasol back to his old team for spare players and a ham sandwich. What a gift.
Interesting how Kevin McHale is a Boston Celtics legend who went to the Minnesota Timberwolves front office.........then just happened to send Kevin Garnett back to his old team without really giving any other teams serious consideration. What a gift.
No surprise that West or McHale are negotiating sweetheart deals to get their old teams back in contention.......we all know a Celtics/Lakers Finals is what Commisioner Stern really wants.

I also remember the days when NBA teams were not made contenders because they got sweetheart deals for marquee players that helped put them over the top.

I'm not too worried about the Spurs.
The mastery behind the Popovich/RC Buford plan is that every player contract has been written with this off-season in mind, so that most every contract falls off the books except for the big 3: Manu, Parker, Duncan.
All the old timers (Barry, Finley, Vaughnn, Stoudemire, Horry, Thomas, etc. will likely be gone, which allows us to be a big player in free agency and get younger around the Big 3..
Plus, expect to see big things from Ian Mahimni, the French kid who spent the year tearing up the NBDL.
There's the old saying: The Spurs don't rebuild................they reload.

As for McHale, well, that's what you get for hiring an ex-Celtic. I wonder what Larry Bird can pull off.

Find me a college bowl game without "company name here" in front of it, or a major sports arena, **** man, you can't even go to a game anymore (baseball, football, whatever) without being inundated with advertising and **** thrown in your face every 5 seconds. That's where the $$$ comes in, and it's spilled over to other areas more now than ever. (how many refs have gotten busted over the last 18 months alone for foul crap?)

I'm just not sure how you tied that up with the Spurs/Lakers series....or maybe you meant to change tracks.

West was nothing more than an advisor for the Grizzlies. I think you're referring to Chris Wallace, who makes the decisions along with the Grizzlies owner. And other than Pau, it's been mostly from the ground-up through the draft, free-agent signings, Shaq for peanuts, Cook/Mo for Ariza.
As for McHale, well, that's what you get for hiring an ex-Celtic. I wonder what Larry Bird can pull off.

The fact that the Grizz traded Gasol to LA is nothing to complain about......what smells funny is that they got Gasol for nothing. Any other team in the NBA would have had to have included in the trade a Lamar Odom and/or a Bynum, with a Sasha or a Radmonovich to make the numbers work.
I agree, it's much worse now. Advertisements and endorsements and whatnot are just out of control. It's going to be harsh watching ABC...(pussycat dolls, desperate housewives, country singer intros, more desperate housewives).

Yes, he had recently become an advisor, but he sure as hell had the ear of Grizz owner Heisley (sp?). Not that hard of a stretch that the owner would heavily weigh the opinion of an NBA legend who had built the Grizzlies from the ground up, who wanted to see his protege in LA (Kupchak) succeed.

Any other team would of wanted to give up as little as possible as well, that's the way you bargain. If you mean that got a special deal just because they are the Lakers, you're wrong. This past decade, teams haven't wanted to deal with the Lakers at all because they would rather not see even more Laker championships. I just don't see the conspiracy.
People might as well enjoy it. The best player in the league finally has the talent around him to compete, rather than wasting his prime away getting knocked out in the first round with the likes of Kwame Brown and Smush Parker.
