Good Window Tint in McKinney/Plano/Dallas?
Anybody know of a place that does quality window tinting here in McKinney, TX?
If not McKinney, then Plano?
Dallas?

I'm going off 6 month old memory, here, but I was quoted about 200 at Altamere in Plano/richardson (as suggested by Ajax) and about 240 or so for the same metalized tint at protint.
For Huper-optic, IIRC, it was 350 and 399 respectively. I was considering the huper-optik because of Nav.
I will say that protint came highly reccommended by both the local subie guys, as well as some Porsche and corvette folks.

Have you ever heard of:
* McKinney Auto Tint & Detail
* Texas Tint
I see Alta Mere is a few miles down from Texas Tint, and Pro Tint is a few more miles down the road. McKinney Auto Tint & Detail is the most convenient, but I'm not sure I trust a place way down in lil' old McKinney.
Also, what % darkness and reflectivity did you get? What type of tint? I want one that will be dark to block heat as well as possible, but I am afraid of getting one too dark where it will be hard to see at night.
Decisions, decisions...

Altamere in plano is where I had mine done.
As far as tint goes, if you want dark tint, you want Llumar metal film tint and you want 15% or less. I have 30 up front and 15 in back. If I were going to do it again, I might go 15 all around.
They changed the laws here recently so you can go darker than 30% up front now.
If you want heat rejection, you want huper optik ceramic. It's expensive but it does an amazing job.

Unpoco, I haven't heard of either of those places.
I'm actually still tintless at this time. (some priorities changed, but i've got to get it done before it gets hot)
I have a feeling that i'll end up going to Altamere

I had Alta Mere do mine for $180 something with tax. This is the Plano location. http://www.altamere.com/mini/AM006/index.html
Ask for Randy, I believe he's the manager.
I have the lifetime warranty film. I'm very happy with it. I have exactly what they do for the dealer. Not sure of the % anymore, but the back is darker.
Bluesunlion, did you lose the business card I gave you?

wein what type of tint was the $180?
This huper optic sounds interesting if it is so good and blocking heat. What is it? And, is it huper optic or hyper optic?
And hey blue, are you the one who owns the beer & wine shop here in McKinney?

it is huper optik, the price was $300. HO is the best at blocking heat. If the tint shop sells HO, they will have a demo. The demo is a heat lamp shining down and you put your hand under neath it. Then you slide the HO tinted window over your hand and you feel such a heat difference. THe HO is not as dark as the rest, but it is worth over the summer. It comes with a lifetime warrenty.

Wow, that's a pretty big price difference.
Just for kicks I looked in my Entertainment booklet to see if Alta Mere by some odd chance was listed. It is! $25 off, nice That book pays for itself fast.

I just haven't had the time and the money at the same time.
Want me to post up that guy's info?
Unpoco: Nope, but I do live about a mile from there on the east side of 75.
I'm pretty sure I've waved at her before. Never got a response.

My parents are trying to convince me that window tinting is unnecessary because the windows should already be either tinted or have special heat resistant glass.
Are the windows a special heat resistant glass or pre-tinted? I know that their vehicles do indeed have this, and it does make a huge difference (they live in Tucson, which gives them plenty of practice at being hot). I also have noticed that there does seem to be something about or on the windows, because the shade of the outside world is definitely different depending on if the windows are open or closed.
What are your thoughts on this?

That's it.
It offers like 2-3% UV reduction.

Your parents are going to sorely disappointed when the interior looks like crap after a couple of years in the sun.
If it's your money and your car, what's the BFD? you're not going for the limo-tint look, I would hope.

Well, if it doesn't need the tint, then why pay the money. That's the BFD.
I think I'm gonna go with the huper-optik. If you're gonna do it, may as well do it right.
