Headlight Troubles: Dealership Turns Me Away!
Hey everyone, I had a headlight go out this weekend, and today i took it into a mazda dealership in McKinney and they said that the headlight and harness for it were after market. The explination i got was "the light bulb that you need is longer than the one we carry, it is obviously aftermarket and we will not change it or mess with it"
So I ask anyone here if off the top of your head you know what bulb i need to change it ( i pretty sure they are HID's because they are white and very bright ) or what kind of aftermarket headlights these are.
Reason I ask is I bought the car used from Toyota of Plano and they did not know the headlights were aftermarket and they said they could not help either.
I'll be using the handy search engine on these forums while im at work also, but i thought i would post here to ask if anyone knows whats up or a place i can take it to.
Anyway thanks for any help and sorry my first post had to be one like this!!

Do they go from blue to hyper white like warming up ? Or do they just come on white , and if they are aftermarket you should take the bulb out and take it to a import shop im sure they can just replace the bulb 9 times out of 10 the bulb just blows out.

wow thanks for such a fast reply, this rx8 community sure is friendly
anyway to answer your response, yes they do warm up when i turn them on and they do go from a bluish to a white ( never thought that was important just thought it was kind of cool)
also just a shot in the dark, but i pulled up a carfax report on the car and it is from El Paso, TX. It is a Silver with a Mazda Speed kit and Greddy exhaust. Mabey I bought someones car from this forum.

if they go from blue to white it sounds like you have Xenon lamps. Is your car a GT 6 speed?
If indeed the lamps are NOT afermarket and are Xenon - the reason your dealer may be giving you the run around is because Xenon headlights are expennnnnsive to replace. (I was told $800 from one dealer for one headlight) Not sure if thats true but i just know its not like swapping out a 20 dollar bulb.

OH GREAT! I thought it was bad when I had my motorcycle. I guess if you can't afford it you wouldn't buy it right? I want to add some halo's to my head lights, does anyone have any idea how to get the headlamp units out?
