Houston: exhaust help!!!
Hey what's up everyone, I'm a new 05 RX-8 owner and was wondering what everyone thinks of two exhausts: Racing Beat or Greddy. I'm seriously considering which one to get and install. Any info would be awesome.
Also, to anyone in the area that has either of these exhausts, where did you put them on, roughly how much did it all cost, etc. etc.
Thanks again for any help from you guys!!
BTW, go COOGS!!!

I have the Racing Beat, and have previously had the Borla. I have NO knowledge of the Greddy for the RX-8 but I typically like their products a great deal.
I would be surprised if any system is manufactured to a higher standard than the RB (some may be the same, but the point is that the RB is an excellent system), and it sounds very nice without being overly loud (it gets louder for the first little while, but is never really loud). I am always getting compliments on the sound.
I installed them both myself, on ramps in the driveway. Borla took about an hour, RB took about 30 minutes.
Bought mine through my dealer for less than the list price from RB.
There are pictures of the install, the ramps, and the finished product at the link in my signature.

I have the RB unit. Before I bought i got the chnace to hear the Borla, Greddy, RB, and one other I forget, at a track day event. RB is a nice mellow tone and very easy to live with. The others were louder at cruise than I prefer, so I went with the RB unit. No regrets.

RB has been, since it's inception not only a leader in the rotary industry, but also has the inside access to make products that truly accentuate the car.
RB works very closely with Mazda on new product development and routinely has advance access to new Mazda product.

If you are looking for a good place to get it installed, call Curt Raulen at C&C's Northside Motors. He's a good guy and he's also going to start supporting the Houston club by hosting meets in the future. 832-375-0933

i have the greddy and love it...but i am wishing i went with the racing beat. don't know why but i would rather buy from a company that specializes in parts for my car, eventhough i know Greddy has an outstanding reputation.

I have the Greddy SP2 and couldnt be happier, unless I got it free that is. I like the huge tips that this exhaust has, and the unit is every bit as shiny(spelling) as the RB, and quality seems to be perfect. To me, at idle, it is hardly noticeable, but once you get on it, it comes to life. Nice deep tone, perhaps not the deepest on the market, but satisfying nonetheless. It does have a hint of "rice" to the sound, but not too much.
I dont know much about the RB, but price swayed me to the Greddy since I did get mine to my door for 504.00 plus shipping.
Try installing it yourself, wasnt hard at all with a set of ramps. Lube the rubber hangers real well and it should be no problem, PLUS, you get the satisfaction of knowing you did it.

thanks for all the input guys. it is really appreciated.
now my next question is as far as sound goes, which one is louder? and catalyst, when you say that the greddy has a hint of "rice", does that mean in your opinion the rb doesn't? if any of you guys have input on this it is greatly appreciated.
also, I don't plan on doing this for about a month from now, so I was wondering if you guys heard about some sort of import car show/competition on the 23rd around the north side of houston. my friend at work told me that it's around east mount houston and 59 north. if any of y'all are going, i would love to hear these exhausts in person so i can make my final decision.
thanks again.

We are having a club meeting on the 1st of Feb. That might be a great time to come out and hear the exhausts of several different 8s. Usually we have about 20 cars at each meeting with about half or more being 8's.
Most of the local RX crowd really isn't in to the whole Import Car Show scene (at least that is what I have observed) and I have observed quite a bit in my time.
