Houston Rx's caravan to Austin for Heat Wave
#5
I'll be at Heat Wave one of the days. Probably Saturday. I'm always there but I hang out with the sereo competition people. I won't be in a rotary powered vehicle though. If anyone is definitely going, pm me so we can exchange contact info and meet up.

I may go up there Saturday RotaryGod, let me now if you'd like to hook up or something, I'll probably be taking lots of pictures etc. as well. There was a huge "bust" when we had the show in Round Rock as Williamson County police are evil. It's not as bad with Travis County but sometimes DPS shows up and they can be real bastards as well, doesn't help things much when all the folks driving by are throwing sparks, flashing people, and chucking beer cans out the window. I used to dj the show and it can get pretty crazy, but it does always attract some sick rides so I'll probably be out there. Maybe some of us could go grab a bite to eat or something? who knows.

you might want to start looking for reservations now if you haven't already, that show attracts over 1,000 participants and over 25,000 people each year, if you haven't scrounged up some accomodations, better get on it pretty quick

2Nd in your class, what were you showing? I know for a fact I was at both of those shows! What time are you heading up to the show Rx8er, maybe we can get a little caravan or something going? I really miss being in a club and showing up at shows, anyone remember Custom Miniz?

I had a 1990 Ford Ranger Xcab - it was Pearl White and faded into Blue at the bottom and had a nice big Kicker sticker on the tailgate.
It had Boyd's on it, but one got curbed about a month before the show, so it rode in on stock wheels
I had a monster bandpass box in the back and a walkthru conversion however I did not enter the auto compeition. I don't remember what class it was exactly.. I think it was like the 2nd level up class, just below wild. (maybe "street"?) The trophy got put away when i got married and I haven't seen it in years.

it was probably mild, I think I remember seeing a Ranger that fits that description, small world. I bet you were stoked when you placed, that's a very hard show to compete in. Having been a former judge I can tell you the standards are pretty high.

Yeah, it was pretty cool.. i didn't have a display or anything ... I did it on a lark.. i was in the area (on vacation) I was just going to watch and thought it would be cool to enter (since there were few Rangers). I even wound up getting a small pic in a magazine, you know one of those collage type things. yup .. small world alright.
9 months later i got my butt spanked by Mark Fukuda for the outlaw SPL world record (i had the record for about 15 mins in competition)

dang, you went up against the yellow blazer from hell? that must have been crazy. I had my share of systems but never made it to competing with them did manage a few trophies with my Festiva though, it was fun!

yeah well i kinda knew i was gonna get killed.... so the excitement was temporary...
I hit a 153.4 (best ever for me) then he blew the field away with a level 2-3 DBs higher than us (there were 2-3 other guys there in the low 150s).
This was the first time that he used the now common "splitters" in competition.

I am probally leaving somewhere around 7-9 not sure depends whats up on friday. I am in the woodlands so I will probally leave there and travel 1488 to 362 (very cool road lots of 90 degree turns long straights and little traffic) through farm country to 290. I am staying at the hilton at 35N, if you want to get a room go through priceline and you can get it for about $55. What part of town are you in worst case we can meet at 290 (supposing you go).

Cars I built entered in the IASCA competitions there several years in a row. I've never lost my class there and even had best of show a few years ago. I built Art Belvin's World Champion Cadillac El Dorado, had a hand with Earl Will's Impala SS, Expressive Audio's Reaper I and II, and Joanna Duncan's Mercury Cougar. I never lose that show. I'm mostly going there this year to hang out with Mark Eldridge and Alma Gates.
Anyone who goes, I'll be wearing a Houston RX-7 club t-shirt. Look for me Saturday.

Is Alma Gates the one who has that crazy Ford Bronco, (or is it a Bronco II)? I'll be wearing a "Speednation.com" tshirt with a yellow (of course!) 8 on it, my license plate reads "JUSRAD" as well. Hopefully I'll run into you guys there, if not then maybe I'll get off my **** and make it to a TexasRXs meet and we can go from there.

Sorry to threadjack... but speaking of systems Fred you think you can make a cust box for a convertible RX-7 for two old school solobaric 10s? Economy is of the essence :D
Maybe I can convince the missus that we should day trip to Austin... when is the show over (apx)

By Chance was Dennis Rylander in Custom Miniz? I cannot remeber the club he was in but used to participate in the Heat Wave way back. He had a early 90's chevy fullsize or might have been GMC.
#23
I remember Dennis, how cool is that? The show ends officially on Sunday afternoon around 6-ish, but if you really want to see everything it's best to make it on Saturday. Some folks leave as soon as they get judged and that usually happens on Saturday with some minor judging/clean up on Sunday.
