How much tire life do I have left?
I don't use the regional forums as much as I should, but I thought this would be a good time.
Looking at the image attachment, can anyone give their opinion on how much tire life I have left? The picture is from the front left tire, the rear tires look pretty much the same. My concern is the lack of the perpendicular tread in the center of of the tire, it's pretty much gone. On the quarter, the depth is just before the head area... which puts it between 1/8th and 1/16th, according to my ruler at work. It's probably 1/16h in the center tire tread.
I have a road trip to Houston coming up next weekend, so I'm wondering if I can make that okay... or should I buy new tires before then.
Also, I'd like to try and branch out and look at other brands, like yokohama, khumos, or michelin. If you'd like to give your two cents about them, let me know. And should I just go with a Discount Tire or NTB place here in Austin, or are their other avenues I should look at?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, you do need new tires. In your picture im looking at the tread level next to the wear strips and they look almost level with each other. I dont know how far your need to drive to houston but you will most likly make it. I would drive very slow in rain though. I like the yokohama tires. I have had great luck with toyos higher end tires. and goodyear eagle F1 will always be welcome on my cars.
good luck!

1935 lbs. FTW!
1/16th is equal to 2/32nd's so they're almost done but you can probably squeeze another few thousand miles out of them. They might be slippery in the rain and if you have the means to go ahead and change them now I would do so. The Kumho SPT's are a good but inexpensive alternative that are good in the dry and wet and last about 15,000 miles.

Thanks for the responses. I went ahead at looked up some tires online (and through our nifty forum search feature) and decided to go with the Kumho Ecsta SPT. It was the cheapest of the summer performance tires, and even though there is better, the general consensus here is that they either match the stock or out-perform them a bit better (and at a cheaper price).
I get the new shoes put on tomorrow afternoon, I'll let you know how it goes.
