Jay Marks IS NOT the Sort of Dealer You Want to Buy From

Yeah...so I went to Jay Marks a while back to drive an RX-8. They're close to the house, and had some close to what I wanted, so I decided to go there. Test drive was good....got to take a long drive, and the salesguy was cool. Started asking for some details as to pricing, and didn't get too far 'cause the salesguy had to keep asking the manager, and I wasn't about to wait around for him to make 400 trips back and forth. So then more recently I get a call from them, they want me to come back in (I know, I know, should've said no), but I talked to the guy, seemed like things were going to be straightforward, and he told me on the phone he would give me the full $4250 lease incentive.

So I got there, and sat down and started to business....filled out a credit app, but didn't let him have it until he showed me some real numbers, I told him right up front that I wanted the trade in value, cap cost, residual and money factor to start out with. He started the apprasial process on my trade, and twaddled off.

20 minutes later, he comes back with a string of numbers, starting with trade in value, ending with monthly lease payment, and including a DOWN PAYMENT on the trade...stupid, stupid stupid. Nowhere to be seen is cap cost, residual, and money factor. I told him he was going to have to match CarMax on my tradein, and he needed to bring me cap cost, residual, and money factor when he came back. What does he come back with TEN MINUTES later?? A lower monthly payment. That's it. No cap cost, nothing. Just a lower payment. I said, I need to know cap cost, residual, etc etc. So then, this guy (a 400 pound mexican with a lazy eye) starts looking all pissy at me. I said to him "I'm sorry am I annoying you?" He replied to me: yeah, you are. I said that's fine, I'll be leaving now, so I won't annoy you any further.

What a lame dealer. You should've just asked for the manager right then and there, then let him have it and walked out.
What're you trading in? Your 7?

Print out this thread and then send it to every Mazda dealer in Houston, including them. One bad salesman makes the entire company look bad. A good salesman would have just been honest and straight forward with you if he couldn't do it. Don't go to Clear Lake either. They really suck!

I wasn't about to waste any more time with these *** clowns.

I don't plan on *EVER* trading in my RX-7. I was trading in my Audi TT. Wanna buy an Audi?

Dwight I thought you liked clear lake?? Did something happen that has changed your mind??

I still think the best sales experience was when I bought mine from Mel at Jeff Haas. If you buy a Mazda there tell Mel Nat sent you...

I used to like them, but that was over a year ago when I bought the car, and then my salesman quit, and the sales manager that I knew quit. Now they suck, the only reason I still go for my service is because my buddy still works in the service department. Probably when he quits I will no longer go there at all.

I bought my 8 from Jay Marks Jan 01, 2004. They gave me the run around on my trade, 03 Dodge Ram Ext Cab Hemi, because I only owned it 6 months and wanted out of it, and still owed a bit. Because of the run around, I went and let CARMAX but the Ram from me, and Jeff Bogle (sales manager) picked me up. Cant say as I felt like I walked away with a great deal at the end of the day, but all in all, still love the car.

So why would you do business there if it wasn't that great? I also can't believe how many people go sell cars at CarMax and lose the sales tax advantage.

I went to Munday first, and I have to say, I was impressed. They where just too far out of the way, I live in Bay City, and I settled for Jay Marks instead. Sales tax advantage? Can you explain?

Yeah...the sales tax advantage means that your trade in is worth 6.25% more than what they quoted you for a trade value since you only pay tax on the difference between new car price and trade in. It goes like this....

New car price = $20,000
Trade in = $10,000
Payoff on trade = $0
You owe= $10,000 to the dealer, plus the tax on $10,000 (Saving $625 in tax)

If no trade, then you would owe the tax on the full $20,000

You see, I never new all that, I bought quite a few cars since I started driving, just never new all the little things that go into it, I always just looked at the final numbers. Guess thats why they are always so HAPPY to see me walk in the door. Well to explain myself, I fell in love with the 8, had to have it, and was limited on time before I had to go offshore again, so I settled with Jay Marks. And I sold my truck to CARMAX because they gave me quite a bit more for the truck the trade-in value, which in turn, made my payments less on the 8 since I had no trade in to add to the cost. Thanks for the info. I can say this about Jay Marks, they have a good service department. I asked for the latest flash a couple of months ago, and they said "Sure, no problem" and wrote the ticket up "rough idle".

Jay Marks can kick rocks--I've had the most unpleasant car experiences from them.
