list of ideas from places to meet in Houston

just some thoughts I had of good food/parking space for our monthly meetings

Luling City Market BBQ - 610/Richmond
BW3 Wild Wings - Westheimer / Wilcrest (out a ways west, but good stuff)
Original Ninfa's - Kirby/Richmond
Berry Hill Tamalas - 59 / Buffalo Speedway
Texadelphia Cheese Steaks - Westheimer / Fountainview
Kenny & Ziggies Deli - Westheimer / Post Oak (near Container Store)

I realize these are mostly Galleria/Innerloop, any one from North Houston/Sugarland/Clear lake/East Houston have any thoughts? Just tryin to throw out some ideas.

Well if Hooters is the main place to meet then there's the Hooter's on Nasa 1 and I-45 in the Clear Lake area. Just pick a night and I'm in.

one issue we (the officers) are researching now is places that can handle 40+ people and offer us private room...(serve yourself places are now the focus, rather than waitress type establishments such as Hooter's. It was a fun meeting, but they just can't handle us. After the last meeting it took so long to get all the orders seperated and into the computer and then paid out when we left they really took away from our "club" time.

I do have some concerns about any of the Westheimer strip locations. Some of the club members have hot shoes and don't always control that left right one.. so we need to maintain a low-profile location....

Finally another thing to keep in mind is price. While I am the type that has no problem going out dropping 10-20 bucks on my dinner.. there are some penny-pinchers and guys who need all the help they can't keeping parts in the RX... so for that reason, we need to make sure any location can feed the cheap bastards for about 5-10 bucks.

anymore thougts... I am open for ideas.

Some very good points, well luling city BBQ is serve yourself and fairly cheap ~$10 for a meal+ drink, wish Niko Nikos had parking, 100% taquito on 59 is good and cheap parking is marginal...damn this is harder than I thought.

Anyone know of any good Chinese or other Asian places that would fit our needs?

Is there going to be a meeting any time soon, I've had my car for about exactly one year and never hung out with the RX-8 club in Houston.

Chuy's is a cool place...(both of them in town) but they don't do seperate checks (not for groups our size) or have a quiet meeting room.

Meetings occur the first Tuesday of the month. However we were planning a club drive in the next couple of weeks. Watch for that thread today or tomorrow elsewhere in the forum section.

You're right, Chuy's doesn't have that . But I love the food. Wait, I work in the food business (check out my protozifile if you don't believe me). I'll see if I can find anything that will hold 40 people, and have that separate check thing .

Hmmm... food business ehy.. (rubs hands mischefsly)

Well, one thing that usualy works in the feed yourself line. I have pretty much secured our spot with Fuddrucker's for the next meeting (the Miata club has used them for years), and depending on the outcome of that we will look for other options.

Keep the ideas comimg. I have been schedulng these meets for about 7 years now, so I can give you highs and lows on many spots.

The Miata club uses the one out on Westheimer and Dairy Ashford... we would most likely use the one at Richmond and Fountainview keeping in line with our typical location.

3 L's - Location, Location, Location

I think the location at Fuddruckers (Richmond/Fountainview) is a pretty central location. Unless the location is near to or inside the loop, someone will complain that it is too far.

Comeon Goo ....driving to Fuddruckers is just a fun little trek for us SW 8'ers. Personally, the more time I spend in my 8, the better.

Count me in. :D

That Fudds is closed now. Closed about 3 weeks ago - to my understanding, it won't open back up either...

Maybe we can try meeting at Freebirds in Shephard Plaza right off of 59 and Shephard? They have the best damn burritos I've ever eaten, not too expensive and they always seem to have a ton of tables open and the location seems reasonable.

I spoke with the other location just up the freeway, (1st exit past 610)

I am going over there tomorrow to scope out the parking situation. The club might need to invest in some parking cones really soon! (and by club I mean someone other than me! )

They are very interested to have us come out and join them.

Freebird's has been a favorite meeting place for the club for nearly 3 years, however the location is loud inside and out and not condusive to running the "meeting" portion of the club meeting.

We will continue to have our Christmas "Toys for Tots" toy drive there and our 1st big spring meeting in March/April. It's a great place to get together and chill, but not have a meeting.
