Cool My RX-8 search this weekend in Dallas

After a day long search on Saturday, I bought a Yellow RX-8 with Sport Package at The Village in Denton. For the rest of you in the Dallas area, here is what I learned this weekend at the following dealerships:
  • Town North Mazda - Had a black GT fully loaded with nav in the showroom, not sure what was out back as I didn't get to talk to anyone. Selling $1500 over MSRP.
  • Freeman Mazda - Had a Titanium Sport automatic (sold) and a black GT being prepped. Selling at MSRP. Talked to Kellei who showed me a list of at least 5 RX-8s due to arrive in the next few weeks. They were not giving test drives unless you pre-qualified for the car and had already worked out payments, etc. I thought this was a bit much.
  • El Dorado Mazda - Had 3 on the lot, all sold. Talked to David who showed me what was coming and took down my name to call me when the next shipment arrived. Also selling at MSRP.
  • The Village in Denton (Lincoln/Mercury/Mazda) - Had 5 when I called, 4 when I got there. I test drove my future car and decided to buy. They were selling at $3000 over MSRP but I was able to negotiate down to sticker.
I had a hard time finding a car because I did not want leather and almost everything in town has the GT package. If you want one fully loaded, I don't think you'll have trouble. But if you are looking for just a manual tranny with sport package you should definitely call first. I got the impression that stock would be limited for the next few months as most places were only getting 5-8 new RX-8s through August.
