TX New Houston RX8 Owner

Hey guys and gals.

Purchased a 2005 RX8 two weeks ago. Its my third card and i have to say it is the most amazing car ive driven thus far. I used to work at Gillman Honda on Beltway 8 & 59 and ive driven a lot of nice cars as tradeins or at car shows. I have to say nothing really compares to the exhiliration of the Rotary engine and hearing that redlining beep.

Just wanted to say hello to my fellow Houstonians and if there are any in the Missouri City area id love to chat with you guys. There is actually a gray RX8 in the Vicksburg area on Highway 6 that i see when im driving to work. If you are on this forum, i think we need to hang out :D

Or a grey one that is quiet. That's basically in front of my apartment and I go to school at UT Houston.

lol 8s! I feel like im back in Florida, but there were just too many wannabe ricers with thier mamas civics and 5" exhausts. The most ill probably end up doing to my 8 is maybe add a cold air intake. Even then just for the deep sound.

Minimal power gain. It's all sound. Catback exhaust is the same way.

well of course you get minimal power gain but you get sound. What's wrong with getting sound? I want sound out of my engine. My dad won't let me get exhaust so I've kind of been considering getting a cold air intake because I don't think he would notice it in the engine.

because its technically "his car" and he doesnt want me spending my money on upgrades and turning it into a "ricer". hes not a big car guy and wont have a clue what an intake looks like.

stuff like cai's and better flowing exhaust do actually help mileage a bit, sure they won't get you huge numbers or gains, but saying they're the "worst thing you can do" is definitely a bit misleading. I can think of and point out several things that are far worse, cutting springs, drilling holes in stock exhaust, silver pinch molding along all the door and trunk edges comes to mind for example.

could yall layout the pros of a CAI so i can talk to my dad and try to convince him to let me get it? then i might just have to do it anyways if he says no.

It is louder, makes a teeny tiny bit more power, makes getting to the ignition easier, tiny increase in mileage (usually negated by you driving harder to hear it), and the filter never needs replaced. I'm specifically talking about the AEM/Mazdaspeed since it is best and the racing beat with duct is good too but is quieter + doesn't make ignition access easier.

my brother was telling me that the wider filter openings will just cause more dirt and dust to be taken in, and that that will decrease engine life by about 10,000 miles.

Where did that number come from? 99% of statistics are made up. All filters have different filtration coefficients or whatever so some will let more dirt/area through but good filters won't decrease the life of the engine. If you drive through the sahara desert then your engine life will decrease 30k miles regardless of the filter.

I already stated the two real options. Everything else will be worse performance wise than stock. They will be louder but suck in hot air (bad thing)
