I was thinking about the wheel/tire thing today. I was originally planning on going with the RPF1's @ 18" but starting contemplating finding something else...a 17" x 10.5" wide...tires would be cheaper, the final drive would be changed so I would also get a small acceleration increase...thoughts??

What hotel were you staying at? If you're at the Manor House inn then no.

10.5"?! I don't think you need a wheel that wide (remember Team does AutoX not road courses and he's a little looney). Anything you can sling a 265 or 275 on would be good. You'll also have to think about the profile of it too ... 40 series?

But for example prices for a "summer" Z-Rated tire at

275/40/17 at ~$90-300
275/35/18 at ~$150-400
275/40/18 at ~$120-400

Now if you move to R compounds...

275/40/17 at $200-300
275/35/18 at $280-300
275/40/18 could not find...

So when factoring in the long term costs...the 17" wheel seems to makes sense...I think...

Unfortunately there isn't anything close to the track. So finding a hotel will be difficult (there is one fairly close by ... nothing else close to it though). I'll need to get one too because my connection in dallas isn't there this summer.

 

You saw how lazy I was at the last event. I didn't even like checking my tire pressure. It's hard to get motivated to continuously make changes to the car ... especially when no one passes me anyway. lol.
