Hey guys, quick update:
I'm a moron.
I'm volunteering at an anime convention in North Houston (Atsui Con) this upcoming weekend. I've already booked hotel rooms and made plans with lots of people, so I will not be able to meet up this weekend for an install party
Could we move it back one week?
I'm a moron.

Atsui con is either going to kick major ***, or be a total flop.
Of the 7 people I'm going with, 4 of them are on staff, and they've been speaking very VERY highly of this con for a while now...
What's going to set Atsuicon apart from all of the other Texas cons is that it is NOT, by any stretch of the imagination, intended to be a family event. Most cons will threaten to kick you out if you don't have a shirt on, or you aren't wearing shoes, or you're showing a little "too much skin" - even if it's still decent and/or part of your cosplay. Other cons also screen skits/walk-ons from their cosplay contests if there is any yuri, yaoi, swearing, or adult themes.
Atsuicon does not have these rules. The dress code is about as strict as one at a public pool or beach. As long as nothing "private" is showing, and you aren't breaking any state laws, it's fair game. A fair number of events & locations will only be open to people 18 years of age and up. One example of such an event is the Hentai-cosplay skit contest. While no actual nudity is allowed (against the law, remember?) homosexual references, stripping, adult themes & language are all perfectly acceptable.
The whole point of this con is to do away with all the child-friendly bullcrap that makes people over the age of 25 (like me) feel so damn awkward and out-of-place at these child-infested cons run by church groups that are so overprotective that cosplayers of Dante from Devil May Cry are denied entry because it "promotes devil worship around children"
If you're serious about coming, let me know. We can make it point to meet up at a certain location of the hotel at a certain time and chillax together

I guess I should have been clearer when I suggested we meet up...
I'm completely unfamiliar with the layout of this hotel, and with the layout of the con. Friday will be dedicated to getting my bearings and figuring out what's located where. Friday night I'll post instructions on how to get to a fairly-open, less-crowded section of the convention where we could all meet up on Saturday. There are lots of scheduled events going on that I really don't want to miss, so I'm going to have to scout out the con for a day to find a nice 2-3 hour gap where we can gather, eat, shoot the ****, play video games, and still not miss out on any of the important shows/events.
I'll talk to my friends on staff tonight and have more information for everyone on Wednesday. In the meantime, find out what you can about your own schedules so that I can work something out that works for all of us. Personally, I think you should all go to the con all 3 days, but that's just me
