*clears throat* OK then, back to the RX8....
Was wondering if I could get suggestions on tires and brakes. pretty soon the sandstorm beauty is going to need new front brake pads and new front tires...
(The bfgoodrich kdw's on the back have done great on wear and traction, but they are so fracking loud that I can't stand them, looking for something with equal wear, traction, and price, but without the noise: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....odClar=Touring)

Take a look at these. This is what I run, one of the best tires I have come across IMO of course. excellent dry weather tire and pretty decent in the rain. Since it does not rain or snow much here it is not really my concern.

yes. and ive also worked 3 summers at discount tire. i can tell you hankooks are cheap korean POS tires. regardless of reviews. which are usually written by unintelligible people anyway. go online anywhere and ill bet you can find rave reviews for the turbonator and tornado intake things too.

I have had quite a few sets of Hankooks and have auto-crossed the **** out of them without an issue. Oh, I wouldn't trust Discount Tire to ever touch my ride again after I watched them scratch a rim (dropped on it's face) on my Maxima and then try deny it to my face.

Wider tires generally equals more grip and allows you to get the power to the ground.
If you only have 190 whp and running 265/35/18 you actually lose power.

It just gives you a wider tire for more lateral grip in the turns.

Hi all, moved down here back in August from Virginia (just outside Washington D.C.), finally settled in for the most part in the upper Garland area.
Been following the thread some, figured I'd announce that I was around, let everyone know there was another RX8 out there constantly having problems with an owner that for whatever reason kept investing money in it.
Figured you might get a kick out of this: brought my 8 in to the dealership after Thanksgiving since I was fairly confident the battery had kicked the bucket, told them to run the tests, and they asked if I wanted a compression test done (free of charge).
Since I went through a mess about 6 months ago where the compression tests gave poor results and prompted me buying a new starter, engine cleaning, new spark plugs, and coils, I figured sure, why not validate throwing close to a grand into the thing.
They call me back, tell me the battery is shot, compression is still low with a battery, want to hold it over night.
Next day, another call which essentially amounts to "you get a new engine under warranty."
Of course, while they're holding my 8 waiting for the engine to come in I've been given a rental, the Mazda5.
So yeah, I go in for a new battery, come out with a new engine, and in the meantime am stuck driving a minivan.

Mazda remans sucks. When mine was torn down by pineapple racing it was determined that the housing reused by Mazda were below spec and should not have been reused. That is why i went with a factory 2008 motor with 5,000 miles on it and had them rebuild that.
Oh, BTW I'm boosted
I can't wait for the tune to be finished and the break in period to be over.

Not all remans are the same but 3mm of chrome flake on the housings is acceptable in the Mazda rebuild FSM. I'm sure a few 5mm or more have slipped in. Once it starts flaking there is no stopping it.
So in theory your reman within 10,000 miles or more could be back to the same crappy compression.
