well guys,
I am putting a chevy 350 motor in. with carb, so no computer headaches.
already have the motor and trans.
Stay tuned.
ps, my buddy in oil field is professional welder as well,
so custom fab wont be a problem.
Have a mechanic helping me.

ok *** hole,
You"ll be eating your own words when i come back in 2-3 weeks with finished car.
with a 400.00 dollar chevy 350 that's more reliable then the junk rotary and faster off the jump
without having to spend 5k on a turbo that's just going to make engine die even sooner.

Don't get butt hurt man but it will never happen. facts are facts. Even if you did manage to get the motor physically in the RX8 engine bay, the odds of you working out the transmission swap, steering, braking, TCS, etc. are one in a trillion.
I hope to god I am getting trolled. Bonghits-05 has been very quiet lately.

Yep,and I believe that build thread was deleted so the owner would be able to sell it without being truthful about the half-assed way it was put together. That car was an abomination.

I would be amazingly impressed if you were able to finish this up in 2-3 weeks. Unless you're able to put some serious time into working on it almost every day, I doubt you'd finish it in that time period and have anything resembling a quality install.
I have no doubt that it can be done. Will you personally be able to manage it? Who knows. You have to consider the specifics of how that engine will be mounted as well as proper mounting for the transmission. If things don't line up properly, you'll be tearing up the interior just to make the transmission usable. Beyond that, you'll also have to consider the proper strength for any of the custom mounting hardware to ensure that you wont constantly be plagued with problems from just driving the car around. I can't think of everything off the top of my head, but you'll also likely lose some other functions that are controlled by the ECU.

i have the next 3 weeks off.
so will be hammering out.
Either way a rotary will not be going in.
Haven't fully decided on the 350 yet but will make decision in next 2 days.
Main goal right now is getting the motor and trans in, to where it can drive.
then i will focus on suspension issues, etc.

No offense, but I really don't expect you can pull off this impromptu swap. I'd expect a performance shop to take at least 2-3 weeks to pull off a swap like this.
Even if you pull off this swap and could beat 9k's car in a straight line, 9k's build will still maintain the characteristics that make the RX-8 the exceptional car it is with the added benefit of the additional power. The problem with what you're doing is that you're going to hurt the good characteristics to try and make it into a car it's not. It would be like buying a camaro and modifying it to handle as well as the 8 and taking away engine power in the process.
Just as a warning... You seem fairly confident that this will work, but consider the time and money lost if this swap doesn't work out. Depending on how far you get in this process, you will essentially destroy any remaining value that the car has.

Scott has done at least 3 successful v8 swaps in the 8, don't listen to these guys they just don't want you do succeed (rotary fanbois).
He can get all the parts and equipment you need to get the ball rolling.

Speaking of swaps... Someone posted this over at audizine. I can only imagine how much fun this would be to drive:
For those of you who don't recognize the engine (don't blame you...), it's the 2.7t like the one from my S4. Except, it's actually the version that was used in the RS4 so it comes stock with a lot of the modifications that made my car a stage 3 S4... From what I understand, the engine in the lotus is the stock RS4 engine with modifications necessary to fit it and provide cooling, etc. It has aftermarket tuning and puts down 420 hp which means it probably has around 450 ft-lbs torque. Needless to say, this thing must fly.

^ Will give them a shout. Thank's
My Main focus is reliability. Not worried about power , hell i even thought of dropping toyota corolla engine in. ( lol )
I don't want to have the rotary rebuilt for it to only last 20,000 miles.
I really like the way the 8 handles, and that's 1 reason i might re-consider
and just have the rotary rebuilt.
Let me get the motor torn apart 1st to see how the inside looks and then i will make final decision.
Thank's for advice.
