Hey Houston we can make a harbor freight run tomorrow morning. When I show up, we can go over all the tools I have and you have and get any extra **** we need. I might try and roll through C&C tomorrow morning if you are still planning on going. If not I'll just plan on getting to your place around 9:30.

There should be a purple/blue kind that's ok for aluminum. I'm not 100% on that though.

The one above worked great, it works better if you let the items soak in for a few hours.

Yeah man some of the stuff just need a rinse and light brushing after I let them soak. It was a life saver because before that I was using zoom zoom cleaner and lots of elbow grease and was getting no where.

Hell yea man!

I'm trying to cut my teardown time down, we barely ran into any hiccups at all. Took us around 10 hours to do the pull and tear the engine down.

I would have tried to make it out to lend a hand/sit and watch but I ended up out of town for a few days kind of unexpectedly.

From the looks of things, I'll be moving back to Houston for now (at the end of the month) and then just seeing how things go from there. Still waiting to hear back on that exchange program, so I might find myself out of the country in a few months anyway. If that doesn't work out, I'm hoping to get back into the SA area sometime soon-ish. When are you doing your engine stuff, Hoss? It'd be cool if I could manage to see some of that progress.

In other news, I inherited my grandfather's 1989 Ford Ranger. They got it just before making a trip to visit me a little while after I was born and there's a lot of memories with it. It has 220,000 miles (original engine) and it's still running fine. I didn't check if the odometer is still functioning properly, so it may have more miles than that. I only drove it for a quick test drive (keeping it at their house for now) and I know that the tach is not working. When I parked it, there was some smoke from under the hood and it looks like there might be a small electrical issue to take care of. Needless to say, it's going to need a little work before I seriously consider making the drive to move it closer to me. When I was checking under the hood, I really appreciated the 8's aluminum hood... the hood on the Ranger is damn heavy. I was joking with my dad that the hood latch was useless because it would never get enough speed for the wind to lift it. I'm not sure how much of a joke that is... it might actually be true.

I thought would have had to wait till i picked up the R3 but I may have worked out a deal to barrow someone's car for a few weeks. I should be able to start on the drive train and engine build from the moment I get the engine. Actually I should have something to keep me busy straight till I get my turbo in a few months. Before I do the swap I do need to get the car on the dyno as is. Currently have plenty of suspension, wiring and interior stuff to do before I get the engine.

Engine parts are currently on there way to WPC to have a Bunch of parts treated. If you are wondering: irons, side seals, side seal springs, eccentric shaft, bearings. I am refraing from doing the housings as I am using one piece ceramic seals and WPC would cause a Very Very long break in period and possible sealing issues.
