To hell the oem cat just get a mid pipe less to worry if the one your gonna buy goes out. My first motor blew due to a clogged cat. Anyways most parts of texas dont do emmisions and if they do check slip the guy 20 bucks he will pass it.

Also if you have the fear on doing it just goto a ma and pa muffler shop they should have tools to help you switch it out. Dont forget your gonna need three new bolts and studs between the header and midpipe they always strip or break off.

looks like a buddy of mine is going to lend me some mula... so midpipe it is. Is there a particular one you have in mind? any bad ones not suitable for rx8's? If you know of a shop in SA that sells good quality and would help to install. Id like to have this done within a day or 2.

I need to do more research on what else I need so that CEL light wont come on cuz that's annoying and I'd like to know when something actually happens on the car and not just keep guessing when I need to check it.

Sorry man, I would offer to help but pm houstonrx8er, he may be able to assist you (for a fee) since he may have room to fit you in. I have three or four projects to work on right now as it is that I have not been able to get done. Choosing a midpipe depends on what your budget is. Do you have a stock exhaust and if so are you planning to upgrade?

hey no sweat I appreciate your response. Im just worried for my car is all. like I said I love it and its my everyday car to get around so I need it done asap. Ive been reading all over the place and my head is about to explode lol. Im a bit confused now due to the more I read about switching it out the more I get a headache. Im a simple guy that just loves speed n cars and does the minor maintenance and leave the big stuff to the dealership.

My 06 shinka has everything stock except for a air filter which is k&n and is nothing of a mod but other then that I have a aftermarket cat. I need to know everything ill need to replace the cat with a midpipe or testpipe? I don't want that CEL to come on either. Ill pm the one you speak of but incase its a no go know of any performance shops that can do this once I have the parts or if they have the parts at hand as well.

For price wise just throw me what you recommend nothing cheap but between midgrade and up. Would like to not have any issues with the car for awhile ya know? make the switch worth it.

So when you posted I started reading on the forums, google ect.. So this is a tuner device for the ECU? don't want to mess with any tuning cuz well I stupid when it comes to it, I know nothing. there is a simple program to just remove it for good? went to the website to see how much to purchase and I see only for mazda 3 & 6 available but no prices.

I know you said ill need some bolts when putting on a midpipe. I did find a authorized racing beat dealer by FM78 in converse and will be calling tomorrow if they have in stock and if can install unless you guys recommend a different brand. Anything else ill be needing? incase they try and poke my eyes out.

For bolts and nuts you can just measure what you got and goto Home Depot and buy high grade metric bolts plus lock washers and loc tite. it will come out cheaper and should work just fine.

correct me if im wrong i mean no disrespect and like i said im not tech savvy just trying to get some advice to help till i can get the remaing funds. I love my 8...
I stand corrected...

The sensor in the cat has one primary function, heat detection.

If the heat on that sensor goes up it will trip a code saying the catalyst is clogged. That doesn't necessarily mean its clogged (unless you are running a stock cat, which you aren't)

So with aftermarket mid pipes the high flow cat or no cat will show a very high increase in EGT, this trips a code in the ECU. Some high flow cats will work for a while and eventually crap out showing codes.

Bottom line if you want the code to go away get a stock cat or a cobb. It's possible the 02 sensor itself is crapping out and needs to be replaced.

Lots of options...

Its hard with the RX8 we have a "wide band" O2 sensor so even many aftermarket cats may trip the light. Its hard to get a hand on a new Cobb AP at this time. That dose not mean you cant get a used one for a fair price though.

You can run an aftermarket catless mid pipe with the stock exhaust but dont expect the stock exhaust to last very long.

Sounds like you have a bit of work to get your car where you want it. I would start reading the Thread 9krpmrx8 links in his sig.

The wideband is upstream of the cat in the header. The one in the cat detects heat only for emission control. That's why nothing happens when you remove it.

aww damn lol i didnt take that into factor... so getting a midpipe will ruin my stock exhaust? my car is still covered under warranty just the jacka** who owned before put a aftermarket catalytic converter on so they wont replace with a OEM stock one.

was just about to place the order to so...glad i caught this

Over time yes. I can burn out the packing. If it is your plan to replace at some point i would not worry to much about it.
