Yeah that would definitely be a cool shoot. We could do a all VR shoot when Hoss-05 gets back and gets his Forge stars on and he body work done.

Cool..... I am always down for an engine swap.

So where do I have my car towed, I need this thing done asao! And I'm willing to help too! But, I need to know about how much money it's going to be, and where I need to take the car. Also, anyone have a truck with chains to tow my car there? If not, I need to call a tow truck, but that's more money that could go to my 8!!!

Well, out local tech was supposed to post up and see what he could do to help but he got busy so we will have to wait for him to chime in. I'm not interested in heading up this project, I have a lot on my plate right now. But if he gets going, I will help knock it out but we would have to start at the crack of dawn to get it done during the day.

Depends on the condition of your used motor, doing things such as the rear main seal is a lot easier with the engine out. You might want to PM rotary resurrection and see what advise he has on the subject.

You will definitely need, oil, oil filter, coolant, degreaser. brake cleaner, shop towels, belts, coolant hoses (unless they have been replaced), and you might want to think about a clutch if your has a lot of miles on it because that is simple to replace as well with the engine out. And ideally getting the flywheel resurfaced is a good idea too while it is out.

Oh, mazda said something about an external seal kit or something.

The new motor has 19K miles on it, and from the sound of turning the clutch/flywheel, has EXCELLENT compression.

the engine already has the clutch and flywheel. the one I have on the car now though, only has about 19K miles on it, as well.

Legend Mazda said that they would charge me only $1125 Labor for the engine swap. 15 hours at $75/hr. and they can have it done by tomorrow evening.

Can anybody beat that, (and do a good job =) )?

That is just straight labor but do you just want a swap or are you planning to keep the car a while? If it was me and I was going to keep the car I would address all of the issues I brought up before. A rear main seal or clutch job later on is very expensive. I was lucky to get an new engine at 96,000 so that is why I spent the extra cash and got the BHR kit, SOHN adapter, and clutch all at the same time.

Have you tried RE tuning ( I think that is the name)? he may do it cheaper but make sure you get an agreement, a lot of times they give you a price and then they nickel and dime you on little **** that gets broke, needs replacing upon inspection, etc.

Yeah I met the guy once so I can't vouch for him. But then again I really wouldn't vouch for any shops, they all seem to do **** half hassed which is why I do **** myself. One ex member here had his motor rebuilt there and had some issues but then again we never got both side of the story so I cannot comment really.

I honestly haven't had much chance to look around yet, but the only place I've found either of the fans is a little overpriced I would think. They have the front one with the bar for $100 and what I think is the same fan by itself for $50, which isn't too bad I guess, but it's used so that seems a bit on the expensive side.

audis4parts.com

I did manage to get inspection done today (thanks to juan and scott) and getting tires tomorrow (thanks to scott) so I should be fine for a while. I've seen the temps getting a little on the warm side, but I'm able to keep them down as long as I'm paying attention.

Give Bob and Olga over at Foreign Affair a call, (210) 658-8338. Bob doen't do anything beyond the stock, but has been an incredibly honest vendor to me and several of my co-works for over a decade now. He rebuilt the top end of my old Civic when the timing chain broke, and he rebuilt/overhauled my Toy P/U (which had an outside shop port the head, 3in exhaust, cam, etc.). I know I've seen a few RX7/8s in his shop over the years and would trust him to work on mine.

Was almost in a wreck earlier on the way to see a movie with friends... Here's the basic story (trying to keep it short but probably failing):

I was heading down I-10W and had just got on at medical and passed the Huebner exit. I was in the far left lane going with the flow of traffic with a red viper in front of me. There was probably 3 or 4 car lengths between me and the viper and a van in the next lane over roughly in the middle of that distance. Out of nowhere, a tan-ish mercedes in the lane to the right comes speeding up behind the van and changes lanes in front of me, cutting me off. I had to brake a little to make the distance comfortable, but by the time I had realized what was going on, he was changing lanes over to the right again. Basically doing a slalom between cars on the highway. The maneuver was just way too fast for him to handle and he started to fishtail. Almost immediately, everyone was starting to brake because he started going everywhere. His rear went right at first and then he caught traction for a second, going straight into the van which also knocked a guy on a motorcycle down. He bounced off the van and then hit the barrier on the right head on and end up spinning a bit so that he was almost perpendicular to the flow of traffic, but pointing a little against traffic.

The van and motorcycle were on the left side of the road and the mercedes had come to a stop at the right side just after the on ramp before the dezavala exit. Another man and I pulled over to the right side and couple cars pulled over on the left to start checking on people. I went to check on the guy in the SUV and the other guy (who I later found out was the husband of the lady driving the van) ran across to check on that side. The guy in the mercedes seemed a little panicked but said he was alright. I could see that the guy on the motorcycle managed to get off the bike and to the shoulder against the divider and had a few people attending to him as well as a couple people at the van. The guy in the mercedes asked me to help him with his key because it was the switchblade type and the actual key blade had broken off the fob and he wasn't able to turn it off and get it out. I leaned in and was able to get it out and handed it back to him. I called 911 at that point to report it and they informed me that a lady had already reported the incident and that they had people on the way.

Once I got off the phone I asked the guy again if he was injured or if anything hurt and he said he was alright. I apparently didnt notice what he was doing because a few seconds later I hear his car start and he said something like "thank god". He starts moving and I ask where the **** he's going but he just merged into traffic and drove off. I wasn't able to get my phone out in time to take a picture, so I just started repeating his plate number in my head. I ran over and told people that I needed pen and paper. As soon as I explained that the guy drove off and that I need to write the plate number down, they were quick to get me something to write with and in just as much disbelief as I was.

The motorcyclist had a fairly sizable scrape/gash on his shin, but nothing too bad considering the circumstances. I had to stick around for about an hour to give my statement since it was a hit and run. The officer told me that the guy would be facing potentially serious charges since there was an injury and he fled from the scene. He wasn't facing a whole lot compared to what he'll face because of fleeing.

As it turns out, I didn't need to bother remembering his plate number. When he hit the barrier with his front end, it knocked his plate off which was left at the scene. I'd imagine it wont take much for them to get the dude.

So yeah, that's my story.

Wow, dude you are lucky you were able to avoid this. I bet he was drunk, under the influence, or had warrants. Glad you didn't wreck the new ride man, now go get those new tires on.

It was pretty much right about 9 because I was supposed to meet at the palladium at 9:10. As far as vehicle damage goes, the mercedes had it the worst since he hit the barricade head on. He was leaking fluids and had smoke coming from his engine bay. I was thinking he might have been drunk or something, but when I leaned in to help him get the key out I didn't smell anything but I don't really think I was looking for that either. Definitely have to wonder how it would have gone if I had held on to the key, but since he had me take it out of the ignition I guess I didn't think he was going to be trying to run. If I ever pull over for a situation like that again, I guess I'll just demand the person at fault's key lol.

It really wasn't that bad of a wreck and could have been a lot worse. I'd imagine the motorcyclist has a bit of bruising and such, but aside from his jeans, he was wearing pretty good equipment. The van ended up with a flat tire, a missing side mirror and some body damage where the mercedes hit, but nothing too bad. No airbags deployed.

Heading out to get my new tires now.
