Agreed, if you can get both you should...

For what I do and since my specialty is security in all its forms...I still have to get my hands dirty which is something I like anyways...

Something to keep in mind. Your CCIE you typically get while working somewhere just due to the high cost. Also, if you are working at a company and you obtain your IE at their cost your IE applies to that company's partner requirements for the first year. So even if you got your IE then left your new company could not take advantage of it for upgrading partner requirements for the first year of employment (and would thus write your signon bonus and subsequent bonus' on the time you stay employed)

Cisco certs are good for partners flying around trying to get up the Cisco partner ladder so that they get more oppurtunies from Cisco. Then there is all the wonderful Cisco ATP requirements that you really never hear about ... and the ATP classes that are harder than the certs (except the IE) that you don't even get a piece of paper for.

I've let all my certs expire ... my last one expired last year. I won't get anymore either. I'm not going to spend my weekends and evening studying. I did that in college. Especially for certs that won't get me where I want to go.

IMO certs are good for getting your foot in the door or making a technology change. Past that once you're in ... people pretty much can figure out if you really know what you're talking about.

heh, I'm in debt for my cert among other things, I took the courses not fully understanding the whole process 4 years ago, it cost me my truck getting broken into as well but oh well, it got me started and I learned stuff and it made me look good at my job I had at the time so it's all good I guess

Very true...Unfortunately I have to work with governmental org's and other assorted characters...and since perception is reality...I play the game while needed...

But I agree with you...I've calculated I have at least another 10 years before I can stop jackin with it and retire...after that...FUNK that noise...

Certs did help in the beginning but here is what has helped the most in the most recent part of my career. Letters of recommendations from past customers, employers, fellow consultants.

Nah ... people buy me lap dances. Even my project managers have bought me lap dances. Customers, clients, vendors, boss's, coworkers, etc. I don't think I've bought lap dances for any of my clients before.

But I'm not in sales so it's normal. I kinda miss being a field consultant though. I completely abused company expenses when I was in vegas.

I had some interesting **** happen to me this weekend. I was at one of the 12 Memorial Day weekend BBQ/Parties I went to over the past 3.5 days, and one of my closest friends (shes a girl before you guys go off and give me ****) is standing next to me and then just out of the blue starts licking my face and then just walks off.

Then later that night another friends of mine walks up to me, puts her arms around my neck, and then just tells me she loves me, she was really sad that didn't go watch PoC3 that afternoon with her and her friends (I was hungover and asleep). Then she is asking me what my type is, and if I'd like her better if she did this or that.

Its not that I don't find both of them attractive but I've known them for YEARS and it's always just been a plutonic relationship so all of this just came out of the blue. Plus they are my link to all their cute friends ... can't screw that up. Women are wierd.

I just felt like sharing ... lol.

Haa...chick friends always rawk...the ones that lick you always rawk harder...

The ones you get to lick back...ok ok I'll stop there...

Messing with your chick friends is generally ok as long as you try not to hurt anyone and recognize that the friendships are more important...some people can do it and be ok with it...alot of people cant because too often feelings get involved and that complicates things...

WTF! Your not inviting to the parties!? Bastage!

Speaking of invites...the kart thing is tommarrow and I'm checking for an open slot...I'll keep you posted...

If it was some of my other female friends I knew less I would have been alright with it but I almost consider these girls psuedo family. Just wierd ... plain wierd.

I know I should get more invites out. Ya'll invited to my house warming later this year. hehe ... that'll be an interesting party.

Cool man. Let me know about karting.

Haa...well sadly I've given up on trying to maintain any sense of decency, gender, or intelligence on the intertubes...

Besides people keep calling me a twink...I mean thats not much better than a fairy...

Any way you slice it...my existance on the interwebs is forever screwed...
