potential new RX8 owner
Hey guys!
I'm about to make the jump from a from an '86 FC to a 2006 Shinka RX8.
I'm not as familiar with the 8's quirks, engines, ect. as i am with the FCs and the FDs so, I though I'd ask you guys.
so...yeah, anything i should watch out for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
also, it's got 98,000 miles...good? bad?
P.S. any rotor heads in LA? I feel like im the only one in the state! lol!

Ive been looking on craigs list in all of the Louisiana areas, Houston, and Dallas. Found a couple of ok ones in Houston and the shinka in Dallas.
I had found one local, an 04 ft with 45k for 12,500...but the guy just would only budge like $500...

12,500 is high for an 04 I think, even with only 45k miles. I got my very clean '06 with 53k for 11,800, and that was from a Mazda dealer. There are some issues that were fixed in the 06 model year, so if you can find an 06+, favor it over the 04/05 all other things equal. As far as how much more $$ the 06's upgrades are worth, I dunno.
How much for the shinka with 98k? Add $3-$5k for the new engine, if it still sounds like a good price considering the condition of the rest of the car, then go for it. But I'd definitely consider the price of a new engine when considering anything near 100k miles.

You got the miles responses, and yeah, make sure you know how old the engine is and comp test it. I have an 04, it will hit 100,000 on my next track trip. Engine has 60,000 miles. It runs like a bat out of hell. There are good ones with that many miles, but you got to be sure.
There are 2 links in my sig, one will point to the stuff you are looking for, the other is what to do first if you get an older one. Good luck.

I've got one for sale for $10,000 with 7-8K in mods already done
it runs perfectly and has never given me any problems but, it may have too many miles for you

Personally I'd look for one via cars.com on a national scale.
I got my my 09 touring (moon roof, and sound, with spoiler) with 11k miles for 19k. Think about it, that's basically 6-9k more for a brand new car compared to one with close to 100k on it.
Also I'm from LFT and have family there, but live in ft worth now. Since Katrina LFT has been horrible (overcrowding etc with all the extra traffic)

not yet. I've tried cars.com, craigslist, and even ebay....
i have found some nice cars but, they are either too far or, not what im looking for. I've kinda fallen in love with the Black Cherry Shinkas.
so, what im thinking about doing right now is saving alittle more and just play the waiting game, I found a '88 FC 10th anniversary in dallas that is a pretty good deal and i'm thinking about going with that...for now....
yeah, Lafayette has been worse since Katrina but, you get use to it. I hear Houston got REALLY bad but, i don't spend enough time in Houston to know.

Your too far comment doesn't compute. You can pay to ship cars ya know. I actually bought my first RX8 in Michigan and drove it back. If you really have your heart set on something, you'll find a way
