What kind of pace if the Texas 8 pace anyway?
9K - Scrapage? You mean on the big dips and cattle guards?
I realize its not a race, but to judge my pace I have a rule that I won't go any faster than 90mph on any section of roadway...I try to get the highest average speed I possibly can...meaning that the closer my average speed is to 90mph the faster I carried the turns and the better the run. Last time I ran the 27 miles on FM 336 from 41 to Leakey in 22 minutes...averaging 73.6mph...my fastest pace for 336 thus far. It was a hoot!
Needless to say I am ready to take it at a slower pace and enjoy the scenery for a change! Lol

Texas 8 pace was out of hand at times, we almost lost an 8 on a low water bridge.
On straightaways I figure 70 and turns about 50-60. The car is fun but there are still a few of us that aren't fully comfortable taking it up that fast. Besides, I don't a ticket . There are a few from the mazda forum here that will tagging along as well. So in all we should have about 10-12 cars.

I agree, you have a good pace planned for the event. No need to over do it. It will be spirited enough to enjoy our cars.

i was up in front for most of the run too.... just its not fun if the whole group is not having fun.
This is all about fun, I don't want anyone damaging or wrecking their baby on this. It was bad enough on the texas 8 that we had the problems we did with the turbo'd 8.

On some of the really big dips...I didn't bottom out but my tires rubbed a little on the fenders. At first I thought it had gouged a groove into the sidewall, but you could peel it off the tire...it turned out to be the tire dressing that heated up and carmalized on the surface. Weird.

Yeah my cat hit a few times but I bought this car to push it and the cops don't really mess with big groups unless your being wreckless so there is no harm in a quick pace.
The Turbo 8's problems had nothing to do with the pace of the run. His car was never tuned properly (which I told him when I saw all the white smoke at the gas station) and come to find out his oil feed line was crimped, starving the turbo and overheating it. I have been helping him since and he now has a new Turbo and will be getting an AP tune from MM, so he will be ready to rock and roll soon. He is a great guy, I was happy to help.

Speaking from experience, the larger the group the slower you should go, maybe 5-10 over the limit with good following distance between everyone, if you start getting into the 15-20 over range and people are acting all ridiculous and tailgating or racing/chest thumping or whatever then the drama starts, and the fun ends.

I can certainly see your point, but I believe you can go at a quick pace (very subjective term) without being a reckless and dangerous LEO magnet. Absolutely no need for triple digit speeds or power slides! That would be nutz! Save that for Harris Hill.
On the flip side, not sure I would suggest doing a meager 15mph around curve with an OVERLY conservative posted limit of 10mph when the average fully loaded family cruiser can safely get away with 20-25mph. I can do that kind of spirited driving right here local!
When we get out there and see the type of group we have, we can determine what is safe / comfortable and what is not. With the sisters its easy to get the thrill without being a hazard to others or attracting the attention of LEOs.
That should be our focus...let's keep it both fun and safe!
